Bloke knows where the contest is and gets there but he's just a bit light on. Reckon if he gets a bit of weight behind those hips of his for 1 on 1 ruck contests and contested marking situations he'll be a very very good player.

Yes when he is running and marking, he's not unatheletic, but rucking he doesn't have the strength of confidence or both to leap into his opponent. Usually tries to outmanoeuvre them and use his reach. Something to work on. Nank would work him over like Jo Frazier. But he's still young and will be better next year.

Soldo was always strong but didn't know how to ruck, Ryan knows how to ruck, but isn't strong.
Hopefully it works out, but it might take another year.
If Ryan can come in and play a good 6-8 games and show improvement that is probably all we need this year unless Nank goes down.

I think fitness is still a bit of an issue. If he wants to be a first ruck, he'll have to get fitter. Otherwise the only realistic way into the side for him is as a ruck/forward.

I think they can, but only if Dusty spends more time in the middle like he did towards the end of this season.

i just hope we don't continue the bullshit of playing 2 rucks and each only getting 50-60% TOG

or even worse for development, have nank pretty much solo the ruck but still play ryan for 40% TOG

2023 was his debut season. Player development is so tricky, ideally not a 2 year gap between games. I was impressed with his ruckwork. Hit the scoreboard.

His 206cm makes field position tricky. I can't see him playing with Lynch & Kosi. given Kosi can back up ruck.
Another 8, 9 games next year. No Soldo, Bradkte but Naismith Fawcett IN.

Agree, but Nank will need a spell at times, Lynch possibly also. If Ryan can come in and play well, that is a bonus going into '24, might even see Nank lose his no.1 title.

When was the last time Nank played a full season?
He usually gets injured or suspended for a few weeks.
Ryan is #2 and Naismith #3 IMO

yes indeed, I still think the club are keeping the number 12 set aside for him

I worry about the development of Ryan. He was given extended game time this year and thrived. He really did show what he could become moving forward. Now we have Naismith as our 2nd choice ruckman. I am concerned that, like what happened to Sonsie, his development may be repressed with being shunted down the peaking order.

Has it been mentioned that Naismith is our 2nd option? Everything I have heard, is that he is insurance only.

No IFs. Ryan can play well. In the ruck in particular. I don't see him overtaking Nank, but perfect Nank depth..
Averages almost a goal a game too and probably left a couple drop through his hands

Yeah that’s the the plan, but Ryan as much as he’s shown in the positive he’s also shown equally in the negative. I’m really still uncertain whether he will make it. People bag Miller for lacking aggression then Ryan is a paper Tiger in comparison to Miller and that’s why he’s easily pushed out of contests and drops lots of marks. There’s no excuses for this if you’re over 2m tall. There’s times I can say Ryan will be a superstar and then he’s NGTMI . He’s an enigma for me atm. We really need to upgrade Nankervis as I think his body has taken its toll over the years and the rucks seem to be getting bigger in comparison.

Whilst some do have that 'Campaigner' in them at a young age most dont and they do develop that part of the game when they get to around 24/25 once the body is stronger and they get the ruck smarts

Max Gawn played 9 games as a 23 year old averaging 10 disposals and 14.8 hitouts Ryan 7 disposals 12.2 this year
but Gawn is an athletic beast now and not sure how he was when at the same age

Agree mostly, apart from the aggression. He has enough aggro but gets moved out of the way because he is so lean with little core strength. My issue is will he ever overcome that. I like his ruck craft and not bad forward craft, but as you say he is easily pushed around and gets his hands to a lot of balls that he drops. He will be better off for another preseason getting stronger so we will see. Not expecting too much this season, but perhaps '24 and beyond, if he goes the journey.

Gawn had 1 knee reco's before being drafted and another two years later. He then did a meniscus and then a 12 week hammy.
A similar sort up to point, tall and lanky.
