It doesn't matter if the club don't want him. If there's no incentive in moving him on then the club may as well keep him for the extra year on $400k and see what compo we can get if he leaves as a FA.

Any suggestions from opposition supporters that they'll get him for a nothing pick and we'll pay part of his salary are nonsensical. It's hard to believe that trades like that are even thought up...

I don't think it is a money issue Apex36 with our Club. Dropping a Premiership player three times in one season means to me he is a gonna.

Let's be realistic if we get a late 2nd rounder for a VFL player we should be doing cart wheels.

By the way you're right he is only on $400,000 next year.

If Cloke is unmotivated then a good coach would find ways to motivate him, Buckley has not done that because he thinks players should be able to motivate themselves. This is one of the reasons he is failing as a coach and he has failed Cloke.

he has found a way.... he's told him that if he cant play better, he'll be dropped to the vfl. If that doesn't motivate him then nuttin will...

about the game today, cloke did ok. I've been watching him for 10 years now and full backs hold on to him but umpires don't think it's enough for a free kick. Travis ALWAYS mouths off at the umpire and then grabs his opponent and throws him aside when the guy hasn't got the ball. He gets a free kick against him and Travis then has the look of a 2 year old who is about to have a tantrum...... This has been happening for 10 years and he hasn't tweaked in his feeble brain that he isn't winning the argument. A smart person might try a different approach... but Travis is like a B grade movie star playing the same part....over and over. It seems to be a common theme with Trav. He hasn't been able to learn how to kick straight after 10 years. He's basically played exactly the same for the whole period. When he takes a mark on the wing, he wheels around and thumps it down the flank....every frigging time. I'd love to see him do something new....

I think the club has got it spot on, Cloke is contracted to the club and he has a year to play on his contract, he is a required player . If Trav wants to leave then he will have to make it happen and CFC won't agree to the trade unless it is beneficial for all partys involved.

My interpretation of the Cloke situation is that they have already decided to trade Cloke. The stuff about him being a required player is just posturing to try and get the best deal possible. I will be shocked (and pleased) if he is on our list next season.

A small practicality: Cloke is contracted till next year, so you are proposing a only 1 year extension for Cloke?

That would be perfect but the reality is that the club will trade him.

You are evading. Ask the Cloke camp how perfect a 1 yr extension would be with contract conditions reflecting his current role within the team, not output from 5 yrs ago.
So again, under which conditions do you expect Cloke to stay and should the club meet them? If that last answer is no, then there is no point in being upset of a decision to trade him.
Certainly not if an early trade is in the advantage of both parties in negotiations with other clubs.

I'm upset about the Cloke situation but it's not about whether he stays or leaves. I just understand why the club continues to tell you what it's going to do and leaves the rest of us to fend for ourselves. I understand that you have a special place in the hearts of those who run the club but I'd like to see people like Buckley to reward our loyalty with a bit of honesty, just as he has rewarded yours. Having said that, I'm happy that you share the information that the club gives you....

So what sort of a deal do you think we are going to get for him by doing that?

Exactly! And it's like what they did with Dawes Shaw Beams Harry Wellingham you can't tell me they just all became unhappy with Bucks. Isn't that a trend?

If we can't somehow get a second rounder then why even bother trading him? He'd be on a discounted salary next year anyways.

I too would like to see him retained. He will help Darcy and the boys big time next year. Particularly if we can get fasolo and billy on the park lapping up the crumbs. I also believe it would be best if he remained in the vfl side for the remainder of this year just so he can dominate and build towards next year

I think a bit of honesty would go a long way. If he is required he should be told straight up and also told why he should remain in the vfl side for the remainder of this year. It's not hard to be honest

I don't think we could expect better than a pick 30-40 (and paying part of his wage). Really no point now.

If he was on $500K+ on his last year and another club offered to pay it all, I be happy to let him go for token pick.

He and his dad stitched the club up good & proper 5 years ago, I think we just have to ride it out from here.

Yes his dad sure did stitch us up. If only we could look into a crystal ball before signing/offering that contract.

It's just not worth trading him. Why should we? So dorkthorn or the Bulldogs can benefit? Bugger that. If I was List management he'd be going no where until his contract is fulfilled. He should be told to suck it up do what he is told and be the monster he is capable of being

And also told if he kicks arse next year he will get a contract extension. Time to start paying the club back imo. He still has a few years of footy in him. He is resilient injury wise

Even if his form had stayed consistent it was never a great deal for Collingwood. Being a key forward and favourite of the fans meant the club was over a barrel.

But to be fair to the club, no one would have predicted his form would disintegrate to where it has.

Yes. I think once the money was in his bank account his attitude changed big time.

Evading what?
You are evading the question "Would Cloke accept a 1 yr extension".
You say it doesn't matter . I think it does. Wouldn't mind Cloke for another year with similar conditions as for 2017. Given the ROI of the current contract the club is well justified to be hesitant to throw large sums at him. But I can imagine a certain David C would tell us to GAGF and his boy deserves much better and has years left in him. Cloke hasn't proven that and might be the next in the line of players that we have parted with that rarely reached the heights of 2010. So the next excuse is that in a different climate, different system, different coach he would florish again. And most agree that might even be the case. Can the club risk a new contract again based upon current output?
Next year perhaps a rebuild. Reckon a new coach sees Cloke on his list and wants to build his team around round him?
Club needs picks to invest in youth, easy decision imho.
