Agree. He always looked a class above VFL.
Too slow for FB though. maybe CHB.
I liked him best as a roaming follower who can drift forward.
Good depth player. Won't let you down.
As a Box Hill fan I'm not happy.

Guys I've been talking Cam up for 3 years saying we (Hawthorn) should draft him and all the Box Hill supporters are aware of how good Cam is. Whether he can step up to AFL and the pace of it is another question, but talented blokes like this don't grow on trees. I hope he goes on and proves me right. Well done Cam. :thumbsu:
Thanks for the info on Pedersen.

The highlights video shows him playing ruck and forward but his profile indicates that he si a full back. Do you know if he played FB predominantly over the last few years and if so, how did he perform?

Re: Welcome to North - Cameron Pederson

Now I think that our list as it stands does not have any major needs.

Key Defenders - Grima, Pederson, Delaney1, Delaney2, Tarrant, Hansen
Running Defenders - Richardson, Kennedy, Urquhart, Wells, Firrito, Macmillan
Medium Defenders - McMahon, Firrito, Thompson
Inside Midfielders - Ziebell, Cunnington, Swallow, Greenwood, Adams, Atley, Lower, Cruize, Scott, White
Outside Midfielders - Wright, Wells, Anthony, Harper, Bastinac, Ross, Speight, Norris

Ruckman - Goldstein, McIntosh, Daw, Mabon

Key Forwards - Hansen, Black, Tarrant, Daw
Mid-Sized Forwards - McKinley, Warren, Edwards, Harper, Wright
Small Forwards - Thomas, Speight, Campbell, Mullet

(Havent included anyone over the age of 28)

Looks even better, adding a few you left out:thumbsu: Prob a little light on Small forwards but you can only really have one or two playing at a time!

Daw will not be a ruck. We drafted Mabon as our development ruck behind McIntosh and Goldstein. Most likely a forward at AFL level.

Pedersen has kicked something like 34 goals at VFL level. Everything points to key position at either end of the ground. Much too short for ruck at AFL level.

I can't believe Sewell was passed over yet again! I really feel for the bloke! I was sure some team would draft him. With Stephen Clifton going number 1 in the rookie draft, (Congrats and well done!), I didn't think Sewell could be far behind. Obviously, every recruiter is concerned about his physique!

If we can get a stable backline without narni, I'd like to see him in the forward line. Hopefully this bloke will get it happenning.

Re: Welcome to North - Cameron Pederson

Dont stress Captain Corrections dont think anyone gives a toss about anything other than him getting a game and being able to play !!

Good luck Kamerun Petersun !!

Lol, relax dude, sory if I embarased ya in frunt of all the ova kidz in the playgrownd

It's probably just me HELLZBALLZ but I just figured that seeing he's now on our list we may want to spell his name right but I may be in the minority

P.S I'm sure the kid can play too

Disagree.

If you listen to Brad Scott's interview on SEN, he stated that if the interchange rules results in the game turning to 1 ruckman/1 mobile smaller ruckman, he said Daw would be absolutely perfect for that role down the track.

I've said the exact same thing in the past, and I think its the position he is best suited for.

He played all his junior footy in that role, and his size, leap and athleticism would make him a fairly daunting mobile ruckman.

As for Pedersen, he seems the perfect cover for Petrie if he has anymore problems with his foot, and wouldn't be suprised if he wasn't drafted for that exact reason.

He is a fairly similar player to Josh Smith, although probably a bit more mobile, more powerful; however, Smith had the better VFL record.

Good rookie selection imo, there's no guarentee's that Tarrant or Delaney won't cop a pantsing at AFL level/we have a few injuries, and the last thing we want to do is resort to playing Spud at FB again.

Interesting comment in the Herald-Subn today in a small section called Quick Grabs From The Draft.

"North Melbourne couldn't read out Cameron Pederson's name quickly enough for pick 17. Even early yesterday, the club was convinced the tall Box Hill utility was headed to Greater Western Sydney."

Dunno why. Roberts was a good AFL footballer when he was fat. When he lost weight he became a matchwinner. If Pedersen was that good he'd have been playing AFL already.

Yeah, well, it's gonna be another shit humid day so I'm getting all the negatives off.
I reckon Roberts was "servicable" in the early part of his career.....when he became the mobile utility type he started to blitz, yes he lost weight, but it was also a change of position. We traded for him too IIRC, wasn't he a Swans player.
Anyway, Bon and Bryce must see something there.

That, presumably, is a metaphor?

Either way, with Atley and the Bastinac/Black pick ups last year it seems one of the things that Bryce & co. are particularly good at is not just talent identification but also intelligence on who's likely to go where/when and positioning ourselves to make the most of our pick position. Even more than that, being prepared to pick up 'sliders'.

I'm wondering whether some clubs might not be as flexible/adaptable in this regard? Maybe they are, and I'm just blowing smoke up the collective arses of our recruiting staff but it seems our blokes are good at covering all bases, including at the last minute if things don't go the way most expect.

I'd love to see an indepth interview with Bryce and Cam Joyce on the website or the next magazine detailing how they go about their business.

How long to they watch these blokes for? How many players do they interview at draft camp? What they look for and how much input the coaching staff have in the decision making. Do we target "types" or do we generally go for best available?

Also how draft day works. Do our guys wak in there with a list of say 1-100 and tick of the names as they go then take the next on the list or do they have a strategy like they appeared to last year by taking Basti at 21, knowing that WC would take him at 22, and risking that Black would still be there at 25?

I think the Black/Bastinac picks from last year was incredibly well played. The Sam Wright pick from 2008 and Jamie Mcmillan from last year was very inciteful.

This year I think we were extremely lucky to have a midfielder well suited to our needs drop and then a second mid/forward who met our needs also drop late the same way Ziebs dropped in 2008.

The Pederson pick has more to do with our list being fairly settled and allowing Bryce to take the best availble. In the coming years as we reach for top 4 and a grandfinal berth we probably won't be so lucky and will need to select whatever will tip us over the edge in terms of attaining a flag.

Cameron Pedersen

Just went on the Box hill Hawks website to get info on Cam. What a putrid photo of the boy:D Hope he has bulked up since then:rolleyes:

What's impressed me about the drafting in the past two seasons is we seem to have picked up guys with balls between the ears.
Watching Ziebell, Anthony, Cunners, Greenwood, Grima brings back lots of happy memories of glorious days past.
Can't wait for them to grow up together.
