Something has changed in the last few days, because all the talk I'd heard last week that it was Becker's spot to lose. And he (apparently) hit his KPIs.

We didn't need to make the SSP selection until Monday next week so no idea why we've gone early before the Collingwood game and made this move.

EDIT: this has me wondering if the club is picking the midfielder because the Wardlaw injury is worse than anticipated, or they've lost faith in his ability to stay healthy or something. Because I'm serious when I say that last week this was all Becker.
I hope your source isn’t Toby pink again

Otherwise he is 0 for 2

roos_fanatic08 Souup chubbspeterson @anyone else who knows their arse from their elbow with these state players: if given the choice of one of the two, which would you have taken?

Cos I thought Becker looked like a bloke with at least budding AFL attributes in my extremely limited viewings of him, and 190cm and 92kg is a frame we could sorely use, particularly if it has a penetrating kick. I may of course have missed something in both players' cases

Personally, I would have taken Becker, mainly because he is a good one on one defender. I think from a list balance perspective it's what we desperately need.

In saying that though, Blamires has a far better athletic profile that is more suited to modern day AFL (tank, speed etc). From my understanding (source from the SANFL), is that Becker is a little one paced and may lack the required agility to make the step up to AFL level.

Signing players based of off KPIs? Is Ben Amarfio in charge again?

Becker must have had some generous KPIs considering he wouldn't have had many more than three effective kicks against Melbourne.

To my eye Blamires looked a lot more likely based off of how he looked once he came on in the second half.

Finished the year averaging 30 touches over his final 10 games.

With injuries to McDonald, Archer, Goater, and Hardeman, Blamires could find himself in the side sooner than later.
McDonald, Archer, Goater you say?

Any 190cm prospects worth checking out to supplement Tom's signing?

Or we just writing off minding forwards in the 185-192cm range?

Really like this, but obviously disappointed for Becker as both have AFL traits.

I suspect Tom's versatility and athleticism won the club over.

He is an absolute ball pig who can sure up guys like Daniel/Kerch/Hardeman/Archer, but also provide some light back up in the midfield.

Welcome to NMFC Tom Blamires.

Given he was the best of the best in VFL and made it as a half-backer in the VFL team of the year in 2025.

Seems to be a much needed/welcome addition to our back line. At least there is no reason yet for the coaches to send him back to VFL level.

Given he also amassed 44 disposals against our next opponent in the AAMI Community Series, he should be full of confidence heading into the next game with us and hopefully from there it's onwards and upwards for our new SSP recruit.

Just a weird one. I understand the pick with archer out, but it makes it hard for mulunda to feature and we just drafted him
Likely that the coaches have noted that Mikunda needs development in the VFL before he can start contributing in the seniors. Not unusual for draftees that went late in the draft.
