Player Watch #40 Tyler Sonsie - Re-Signed For 2026

AFL players seem to hang around as long as a contract runs.
clubs can't delist a contracted player
Castagna injured in preseason, pulled the pin. So no games played but contract ran the full year.
Caddy ~ similar... didn't want to play VFL so he pulled the pin
problem child JUH traded to GCS

I think Hollands is stuck on Carlton's list .... play VFL for the duration

They can pay him out if they reach an agreement

Sonsie was stunted cause his balls never dropped.

I don’t think Hollands is welcome back at Carlton. They need to delist him but that will come at a price. However, if he got an offer from another club he could negotiate a release amount. I doubt a new club would offer his current contract. If he was delisted and payed out I’d be happy for Richmond to offer him a train on gig.

We could play him at vfl until he gets good then some shitcampaigner club will take him in the msd

hollands played 3 VFL games at Carlton late this season. so they can tolerate him.

no trade for him and Carlton have traded/retired 8 other players Fantasia, Docherty. etc.

Dogs and Dees got rid of their problem players in trades.

no movement happened for contracted Hollands so he'll rot in their VFL team like Stack did in his last year.

Don't understand what the hold up is unless it's genuinely a 50-50 for Dow/Sonsie and who stays depends on who we pick in the draft? Young was on the main list, as was Kosi and Kmac. Bauer, Blight and Colina would be rookies. Perhaps we are waiting until draft night to trade out 38 for a future pick then get Kellaway with our next pick? Or maybe we are waiting for other clubs to delist players and then we are weighing up keeping our guys vs causing a board meltdown picking up the double if Hobbs/Phillips.

I was wondering if we're keeping open the possibility of trading down into this draft (doesn't make much sense to me but maybe if every other team also hates this draft you could get a huge bargain).

Have a read of the article quoting Blair Hartley on the clubs website.
Basically, they’re working through their draft order and determining how many selections we may make in the draft. List spots are at a premium and they are unable to commit to either Sonz or Dow until they determine the number of list spots they anticipate having available.
How this works in with the 31 October list lodgement has me stumped, but I’m guessing they’ll have to make the call by that date.

Whatever it is, the club knows that nobody else is interested.
Imo neither should be retained, even on the rookie list.
We’ve had a good look at both, while they have both played some ok games, they are well short of best 23, and I can’t see roles for either.
may as well roll the dice on a couple of late ND or RD picks or leave a spot open post preseason training. Right now is the perfect time to be trying to find another Lambert
* great work by Blair getting Retschko. Not saying he’s going to best 23, but he’s exactly the type we need, and it’s a free hit. More of this imo.

Chris Yarran version 2.0 imo

Waiting with bated breath...

We announced Coulthard & Cumberland's delisting's this time last year, the 23rd at around 3pm

it makes me think if it doesn't happen in the next few days we must be planning something.. what, I have no idea.

kind of sad thinking about how a lot of us were super excited when we recruited him ….. the steal of the draft
Think he still can be a good player at afl level in a certain role at a good club contending

Doesn’t feel a good at Richmond currently unfortunately
Feels like he tries too hard with fancy shit and less fundamentals

I wonder if banks gets injured if he could play half back where he sets up the play with his silky skills
