Will Sullivan

Height: 201.5cm
Weight: 93.7 kg
DOB: 24/08/ 1989
Recruited from: Western Jets
Rookie Draft Pick: 43

I am proud to sponsor young Will Sullivan in 2008. In a squad of 44, we only have 3 ruckmen Dean Cox, Mark Seaby and Will Sullivan. Would like to wish Will the best of luck as he begins his AFL career.

Articles on Sullivan:

1. Sullivan set to learn from the best

Quote: “He is really excited about the prospects of joining a club like the West Coast Eagles and it’s a tremendous opportunity for him, Sexton said."

2. Will power attract West Coast Eagles

Quote: “Sullivan will hope to follow in the footsteps of his hero and now teammate Dean Cox by being promoted from the rookie to the senior list.”

3. The kindest cut

Quote: “But Sullivan says he's rapt to be in the AFL ranks and doesn't mind having to relocate to Perth. "I'm actually looking forward to it. It will be something different for a few years. My family are just rapt; I've talked to just about everyone I know this morning, it's been unbelievable, he said".

Hes a bit unco like Dean Cox it seems when he first started.

This week Perth is playing Peel, so if you have got chance, go watch him and Butler and Scooter play.

I have heard and read nothing but good things about Will and his development as a footballer. Have my fingers crossed that there is a chance that we might get to see him on the 'big stage'.

Reflecting on a game I saw Will play a few weeks back I am quite excited that we have him on the rookie list. Won't be ready to replace Seaby as number 2 ruck (not a comment on who's better, just won't be ready) but I think is a massive chance the year after. Hope he keeps improving the way he has been.

He is such a great player, i hope he gets a game next season.

Interesting he is dubbed 'the apprentice'...

Word is that Will's manager was keen for him to walk out on the eagles and nominate for last year's national/rookie draft,
as he was highly rated by other clubs and would be given more opportunities elsewhere with the likely drafting of Nick Natainui.

As a result, you guys extended his contract and increased his salary to the amount a senior listed player would recieve.

Obviously the eagles were keen to keep him, but interesting considering they intended to draft Natainui.

How do eagles fans see the 'Cox, Natainui, Seaby and Sullivan' situation in coming years?

He is probably worthy of a backup ruck role coming into this season I reckon.

So it will be interesting how the Eagles play it at the end of this year.

Will be difficult having Cox, Nico and Will in the same squad, as all 3 would probably be deserving of spots. And I'm not sure he will be around long enough for when Cox goes.

Well Seaby will be gone at the end of this year as he wants to be traded and is coming out of contract, wether we get anything for him or he goes into the PSD is up for debate. Sullivan should be pushing to get games ahead of Seaby in 09 as a back up to cox.

Naitas injuries would of helped Wills chances as Naita will be out of training for 12 weeks and will be eased back through the WAFL, Naita might be 100% fit by mid April and available for selection in May. Basically means that this year will be one of WAFL development for Naita and he most likely wont be playing any games.

Sullivan needs to step up and get some AFL games into him this year while Seaby is down on form and Naita is injured. That way he wont have to contend as much with Naita next year as he will be further developed, and has a chance to come into the second ruck spot on a regular basis.

If he develops well he could rotate with Nicknat, Nicknats potential to play elsewhere needs to be explored.

That's what i was thinking. If Will wasn't in your long term plans you'd think he'd be released to return home..
No one seems to rate Seaby, so as of next year (until Cox retires), i think Sullivan will swap with Cox and NicNat will play a key position, maybe even wing...while pinchitting in the ruck.

^^ Love Houli he will be a gun.. also agree with trying Nat out in other KP positions. We do have allot of height all over the ground though and those players are more suited to their positions. It would have to be Naita in a KP versus another relatively new kid, eg dont put him at FF versus Scarlett, mabye at FF when we play Collingwood as there FB is Brown ect..

He'd probably get trounced but I would really like to see Nat play against buddy
