How many of the last Premiership teams had an out and out generational superstar (actually in their prime)?

Brisbane had Neale who's very good but not sure in that category alongside a Hird or Voss. Ashcroft winning the Norm Smith.
Collingwood had a past his best Pendlebury, and a mostly outside leaning Daicos. Bobby Hill winning the Norm Smith.
Geelong had a past their best Dangerfield and Hawkins, Cameron arguably up there. Isaac Smith winning the Norm Smith.
Melbourne had Petracca in his prime, and winning the Norm Smith.
Richmond had a prime Dustin Martin.
West Coast no real prime aged superstar, Josh Kennedy past his peak.
Bulldogs had a young Bontempelli, Johannisen winning the Norm Smith.

Not sure you need an out and out superstar (it helps though), but you need a handful of guys that are capable of winning their position at key moments. Martin is one of those.

I'm not sure ADW has the profile to be that out and out generational player, but can he be a Martin who's able to reach the top handful of players in their position? Possibly. His profile gives him a chance of that.

When I entered this thread I did not anticipate discussion about whether you need a superstar on your list to win a premiership or not.

Arthur Day-Wicks must be having one of the all time greatest ever pre-seasons to be inciting this kind of discussion. Lid-off!

So old mate 3 dads is an emergency after Lual was an emergency last week and Kako, Edwards and now El-Hawli have now debuted.

It's good but I'm hesitant to offer praise because Scott should have been doing this the entire time.

I cant recall seeing Footy IQ listed in any strengths but just seems to know how to play high half forward.

Started off well in the VFL today

He didn't kick straight today, but I think along with Johnson, he was the best of our youngsters, which is encouraging considering we were playing against a premiership fancy

probably the biggest take away with Johnson from the game. Just makes things happen. Goal kicking obviously let him down (1.3) but a very positive step from the old school footballer

bloody rough night for the man with the high socks. Nothing stuck, couldn't hold a mark, couldn't hit a target but kept trying.

Will have some BIG days out soon but the hope is he keeps coming cause tonight was impressive that he kept putting in even with things not going his way

That second quarter on Saturday night showed he has all the tools. Consistency in game the key now.

Overall a pass imho for Saturday nights VFL game upon a rewatch

A few of the pre draft write ups had that as a knock on him. From memory injury may have played a part in that in 2024.

Was a big reason why we were in and out of it in the first 1.5 quarters. Had 12 at half time but then coaching staff reverted back to the tried and tested crew in the second half.

Love his willingness to get his hands dirty and do what needs to be done for the team. Just has all the tools to be a very good glue guy, putting it all together himself is the big challenge but has taken some great strides by simply playing each week in 2025.
