Overrated flat track bully
I wanna see him up the ground a bit before I go postal on him. He had an ok year and there is certainly an element of what you say about him, but would love to see him on ball a few times a 1/4 - maybe on a wing running into the guts from the bounce - that sort of shit, Christ, even the odd stretch at HB possibly.

He's a big body and has a bit of height and grunt, maybe we can find a spot for him long term. It's only took Curtis a few months to go past him, let's see how Ducker Dovaston goes in 'his' position.

If he was taller and just plain better he would be better and we would be better and our avg height would be taller.
Coming on to a list as a rookie pick, and out performing many top ten picks over the journey, doesn't wash with me.

And to think we let a gun like Maley Finbars go, what were we thinking. And Cam playing as an undersized CHF for years, doesn't wash with me either.

That was proven when we got Darling Jack over, he won the hearts of many a poster, kicking 24 goals through the big sticks. Can't wait for next season when Darling Jack boots another 20 big ones. We will all clap, although in fairness Jack did allow Cam to go back to playing a position that suits him.
But yeah 85 marks, 232 disposals, 38 goals, 24 behinds from a flank is ordinary.

I'm all in on improvement, this is the wrong tree to be barking up. FFS this place is mental at times.

The Zurhaar bashing is plain weird.

One of very few that opposition coaches have to actually counter.

But yeh let's worry about the flanker kicking 38 goals in the shittest side in history.

If he wasn't lazy, selfish and such a poor decision maker we'd have won another four or five games as well.

Mate, come on. Simply not true.

Yes, he kicked poorly in Round 1, which possibly cost us the game. This seems to have upset some people to an unreasonable degree.

I'm glad we have at least one forward who focuses on trying to kick goals, though. If that's selfish, I'm fine with it.

Wasn't lazy at all this season, perhaps it was a reasonable criticism in prior years.

Which games other than Round 1 did he cost us?

Maybe. But let's deep dive into CZ's 2025... shall we?

You take away 7 goals against Melbourne (in 2 games), the 4 against Richmond, 2 against WCE.

So that's 13 against shit teams. 25 against decent to great
@$800k a year? Jesus. It's gotta be one of the greatest jobs in history.

Now I'm not a hater, I just go with the truth which is he is a generic disappointment bringer. He's ok, he's well-paid (likely overs), he's never fit enough for his position (how could he be when footy interrupts his cooking career?)... and I think it's actually ok to expect more.

Look upthread in my posts this year.

Its not that he kicked poorly in r1. Its that he stood there scratching his arse while Bailey Dale ran off the backline or ran past him to kick goals or set up scoring chains. Everyone misses goals, and while that can be costly, not running off the forward line is far more damaging to a side.

He was certainly better as the year went on especially after the bye. But early in the year he was disgraceful. No way a coach like Pagan would cop that stuff.

Anyway, 2025 is in the past, this coming year he is in the leadership group and we have supposedly got a whole new focus on team defense. It will be a big test for him and I really hope he passes it with flying colours.

Oh No Cat GIF by Unscreen

You just put a running attacking half back on him and let that player cut up the entire midfield. It doesn’t take ANY effort whatsoever for oppo coaches..

As I read on, Ferbs reiterated my point. Sometimes we see eye to eye

Dunno, I reckon there's an interesting debate to be had here.

Has he had to bear goalkicking responsibilities with Larkey?

Yes.

Have those two decided to iron out some of their own strengths for whatever reason, perhaps self preservation? (Zurhaar: defensive verve shown as a 21 yr old, Larkey: leading ability as someone with a good tank?)

Yes.

One point that comes to mind is that traumatised people clam up and are unable to do things that previously they might've, or that they would be able to if their life kept something of a linear progression; essentially, their progress is stunted in life by whatever nasty event/s have/has happened to them.

I wonder if they're traumatised footballers. Genuinely. It's all been quite torrid, and neither of them has really come on from what they showed in 2019. Sure, Larkey is more prolific, but that's expected as the number one and sometimes only key forward. As players, you wouldn't say they have any more good traits now than they did then. They've stopped in their tracks.

You could actually apply the same logic to LDU. He should probably be a top three player in the league, but he isn't, is he. He's fickle. Doesn't have the consistent impact of the top players. It's not unfair to ask the question whether he's been stunted too.

With ferball, duck and chipscab on this one. Godspeed Sheezel and co., for it won't be the older gen moving the needle for us

I often wonder that. Part of it is a shit coaching set up and no stability for sure.

If Zurhaar had one decent coach watching him from the start he'd probably have been coached to change his lazy habits and take the "whole game" thing more seriously by 2021/22. As it is he had four coaches in his first four years of regular game time and six by the end of his fifth proper year.
