Retired #48: Mathew Stokes - 200 and out v Bulldogs this week

Yeah, have heard this too.

Don't mind most of the other selections and I realise the awful predicament and lack of options the club has - but I'm not wildly excited by getting either Kelly or Stokes tbh.
I did myself a favour by taking "wild excitement" out of my available list of emotions for the 2016 season.

Current highest emotion possible is enjoyed/enjoying.

BomberTV Stokes interview.

And his presser that everyone is talking about but half don't seem to know what was actually said:

edit: Thought I'd link these for the top up players as I already linked Kelly's first official interview and no one's added them in the last few days... so if anyone hasn't seen them or doesn't check efc.com.au regularly... :) I think we need to do the 'my boy' draft again for the supplementary senior players so there's someone to collate this stuff for each of them for the year haha!

(about Kelly and Stokes)
Matthew Egan said:
I think they will be close to selection this week. Both have been building their pre-season loads each week and both are great additions to the Club with great experience, and our young players are learning off them each day.

Essendon’s Mathew Stokes will miss at least the next three matches with a hamstring injury.

The 31 year old has played every game of the season so far, after signing with the Club earlier this year.

The premiership-winning Cat has spent most of his time in the forward half where he has averaged 19 possessions per game.

Stokes felt some soreness in his hamstring against Carlton and will now spend some time on the sidelines.

“We’ve had Mathew Stokes’ hamstring scanned, obviously during the game he had some discomfort and some tightness in it,” High Performance Manager Justin Crow said.

“Unfortunately it does have a strain and he’ll miss at least three games I would have thought.”

This man deserves a mention. Coming off very little pre-season, hasn't played since June, then comes back in and has a lazy 32 possessions, 4 clearances, 2 inside 50's & with 107 supercoach points he was very good all day. Deserves his 200th coming up against the Bulldogs this week - well done Stokesy hes certainly been one of our better top-ups

200 and out apparently

ESSENDON has revealed Mathew Stokes will play his 200th and final game on Sunday when the Bombers take on the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.

Coach John Worsfold confirmed the news on the club's website with little fanfare on the same week the Bombers celebrate Adam Cooney's 250th game.

Stokes, 31, was coaxed into one last year as a top-up player, after 12 Bombers were handed year-long doping bans.

The two-time premiership player retired after being delisted by Geelong at the end of last season, but along with long-time teammate James Kelly, decided to join Essendon.

Stokes lined up in 10 matches this season and averaged 18 disposals per game, with hamstring and groin injuries limiting him.

He has kicked 209 goals from 199 games and was a member of the Cats' 2007 and '11 premiership sides.
