How many mines have shut down since 2011? What other non-seasonal employment opportunities still exist in that village?
Mainly odd jobbies on the properties and rent is much cheaper if one is not too fussy.

I gotta be honest with ya, my first thought was, he's been playing outside on dusk, hears Mum and Grandma returning from tending the sheep, runs out to greet them, is hit by the vehicle and critically injured, they panic, take the body somewhere in the 3 hours before Police are called and a narrative of wandering off is put forward.

Ticks a few boxes too.

No tracks
No body for searchers/animals to find
And if SAPOL are on the same page,no need for public assistance.

Its a terrible thing to consider but not unbelieveable.
Did cadaver dogs go over ALL vehicles on the property?

Why? Why panic? Just tell the truth if it's an accident. Only reason for panicking or hiding the facts is if someone did something wrong.

Under the South Australia Children and Young People's (Safety) Act 2017, Gran could be theoretically charged due to lack of supervision. No body, No Evidence, No trace, No witnesses - even circumstantial evidence of what may have happened will be truly hard to come by.

This isn't what I think has happened but what if the parents believe they know who took him but don't have any direct evidence? Nor do the police at this stage. The police would want the public to think they were doing something while the parents would believe making appeals or even statements to the public is a waste of time (because they know in their minds who took him).

There's a lot more going on behind the scenes that we're not privy to, which is the case with every crime, and something that's common is there's a calm before the storm.

I doubt there’s been any police search dogs including cadaver dogs. Media tend to get footage of search dogs in situations like this and I haven’t been able to find one photo. Pretty sure there’s only police cadaver dogs in NSW and QLD anyway.

There was a Daily Mail report that mentioned tracking dogs but I couldn't find any photos either, well not genuine ones. If search dogs were not used it's a legitimate question to ask why not. Both the SA SES and SAPOL have search and rescue dogs. Too late now of course.

SA doesn't have cadaver dogs but they could borrow them like VicPol did when searching for Dezi Freeman.

If was definitely reported that search dogs were used. I've also seen a comment by the lady that was running a coffee van on site that dogs were there but unfortunately found no trace

Managed to find an article re SAR dogs

Police said they are throwing everything at the search, with more than 100 personnel including officers, SES crews, volunteers, drones, helicopters, dogs, horses, police divers and aircraft scouring the vast outback property.

We’re still hopeful that we’re going to have success,” Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said.

“Our intention at the moment is to continue searching until we find Gus.”

Sniffer dogs have failed to pick up a trail, and the terrain — while seemingly open — has proven “deceptively large and challenging,” Stevens said.

That appears to be a fairly direct quote from Police Commissioner Grant Stevens - that sniffer dogs were used.

So then we are left with the question of why sniffer dogs didn't pick up a trail. And why no other evidence has been found about Gus anywhere on the property. The theory that Gus just wandered off is looking unlikely. Which leaves some element of foul play.

Wow, referring to SAR dogs as "sniffer dogs"! I wonder how many there were to cover the entire "deceptively large and challenging" property?

It could be imaginary “sniffer dogs” like the deputy commissioner saying the dam water was being pumped into water tankers and there was a snake needing to be blown up/dispatched on the porch. Confidence in the bosses knowledge of what is actually occurring on site in real life is low imo.

Ok, multiple dogs were used, and all 'failed to pick up a trail'.

Apparently, such dogs can detect a trail for up to 30 hours after the fact.

So, either the dogs were brought in too late and the trail was too old, they weren't good enough, or a trail was never there.

Do we know exactly how soon the dogs were brought in?

It took them 5 days to bring in a tracker, didn't it?

Not if they were worried about losing the younger sibling.
Lets not forget, the Father feared his children being out there.
A child wandering off can happen anywhere.

They wouldn't have risked losing the younger child over an accident, so if that were to be the concern then I'd venture it wasn't an 'accident'.

Why did the father not want his wife and kids out there - because of the external environment or the internal environment?

I doubt they'd waste resources on repeated searches of the property if they believe he'd been abducted.

Not to the authorities, but to the Father.

If he was that concerned about things that it became public knowledge he obviously held genuine concerns.
So an accident as I've suggested, in the minds of Mum and Grandmas x2, may be enough to bring that to a head and something they wanted to avoid.

I get the impression that Mum is content out there and in no real hurry to move.

Hasn't the father been renovating a home so mum and the kids can move in with him?

Of course that doesn't mean she's agreed to move.

Allegedly the father had an issue with one of the grandparents. Do we know if there was any tension between he and his wife?

So he says, has anyone asked Mum if she's keen to go?
If the reno is livable for him, why not the whole Family?
So many unasked/unanswered questions.

Im not saying im right, just that its a scenario that could fit the given narrative.

Yes, lots of unknowns, and so little verified facts.

In this scenario, what would've given the father the upper hand - so to speak - that one more misstep by mum and / or the grandparents, ie an accident, would see them relinquish custody of the youngest child to the father?
