The only experts I have read about being brought in by police have said Gus couldn't have got very far from where he was last seen.

An expert investigator would obviously see past the improbability of 'wandered off', and would be thinking about where Gus may have been 'taken to' in a short time without detection.

Gamble isn't implying foul play. He's saying Gus's abilities may have been underestimated. But still, his proposed search radius of 8 km for a 4 year old seems OTT. Try playing with Google Maps to see where walking 8 km would take you from your house. Gus wouldn't have walked in a straight line.

Even if Gus walked 5 km from the house in an unknown direction that's still an area of about 80 sg km. I had been leaning towards foul play but given the size of the search area and the logistics of searching such a remote region, I think it's plausible why they haven't found him.

Because Gus is missing and hasn't been found. Somebody might know something which is relevant, but maybe not realise that it is relevant. If the media reports every known detail about the case, then someone might come forward with a vital missing clue.

I can see why they'd be uncomfortable about it. I guess this means that they have given up all hope then. If it was my child / grandchild then I would still place finding him alive, or even solving the mystery of his disappearance above my own comfort or vanity or privacy or whatever. I can't see anybody managing to sneak up to that property, not without someone seeing a vehicle or bike, noticing wheels spinning up a heap of dust or hearing it.

I think it goes beyond privacy and already being judged because the media are highlighting it but yes if they think something’s happened that they are unaware of then it might be helpful and at least keep the media off their case.

If the whole family also believe he has wandered off then why say anything to the media what would it achieve. People are underestimating how remote this place is and how very little traffic would pass in a day or even a week.

If he was taken, I think he'll be found. Anybody who travelled through is going to get caught on CCTV eventually and their phone will ping on towers.

There aren't as many traffic monitoring cameras out there but there's quite a lot of cops I noticed. I'm not sure if they've been ordered out in numbers in a show of higher visibility and to pull people over but I've never seen so many on outback roads before.

What if Gus reached the 'main' road and was abducted.

It’s like 40 minutes by 4 wheel drive to the barrier highway afaik.

I dont know if it's when children in outback or regional areas that police always assume that they have wandered off and other scenarios are investigated too late, evidence lost.

I also think it's the dad keeping quiet that I'm now questioning.

I wouldn't, especially if they're not suspects and this isn't the city or a country rural town. It's the outback.There's nobody around, even on the made roads you can drive for 100km and not see another vehicle.

If they do speak all it's going to do is create a lot of speculative internet chatter, the 'body language experts' will be all over it and it could potentially be very distracting making things harder for the cops.

Oh we saw a lot of body language from grandma Josie on the day before the “dam draining” search.

I imagine it was distracting and did make it harder for the cops.

A little decorum from Josie that day would have gone a long way.

And if the cops were looking hard enough, any vehicle spotted on CCTV or satellite they can't assign to any form of communications, they'd take an extra hard look at.
