Na no way. Young only got back into the seniors after Gray got injured. And Blight was dropped for him.
Blight got 5 of his 7 games, rounds 2 - 6 early in the year because of Balta's unavailability thru suspension. WE then gave him two more later in the year rnds 17 and 18 on the back of good vfl form.

Gray played three games rounds 8, 12, 13. Young did not play until round 19.

Pretty sure Young was the preffered option over Blight nothing to do with Gray.

The kid does look to have talent and athleticism and a good ceiling and at 22 a perfect fit for us.

Imo they was not expecting Young to fly the coop were not prepared to match the offer wce offered and were ultimately forced to take pick 38 which is a good return on his overall body of work imo.

Kossie was a waste of space could not demand a game even with all the injury.
I believe Blight was a bit stiff but the obvious knocks on his game were his pace and agility for the level.

Losing all three probably means we can take another tall defender at some stage or try one of our many tall forwards there possibly Fawcett .
Either way the tall defensive stocks are looking solid
Balta 26, Miller26 , Gibcus 22, Gray 22, Trainor 19 with 32 yo Broad who can play tall if need be.

Alot of good KPD are failed forward's

Armstrong , Sims , Fawcett & Faull there are no guarantee's all 4 players make it as a KPF
We also have Lefau & Gray that are flexible to fill a role in defence or foward

We are good for KPP

This blokes a suburban footballer. 2 more years ffs's! Just a nothing footballer. Did zero against the Dee's and even less against the bloose. At least pickett and grigg found the pill. Being fresh he should've been able to show something and had bursts. 23 yo so he's no spring chicken. All those who said he offered more than Blight should be drug tested. Back to magoos, Lefau and Fawcett deserve a crack.

You can't say that off one game where he is played completely out of position. He's a backman, but he has Gibcus in his way. Much more agile than Gibcus and on VFL form much more attacking. Lefau will come in for Faull you'd think and you don't want to make too many changes after one match so I would wait until Fawcett can get a good run of a few games.

Broady, vlaustin, comming towards the end. Brown and Trainor showing a bit, but not quite there yet and shorty and Miller might not be around for our next flag contention . Like the way Gray goes about it, happy with the extension.

Was a suburban footballer a couple of years ago. Can play but not a ruckman so yes he is struggling a bit. Has good agility, good leap, good pace for his size, nice enough kick, reads the play well, good enough mark. All these traits shown as a backman. Happy for him to b playing second ruck ATM as it's the only way he gets a game.

Also, would like to know his game time, under 40% you'd think.

32%. Pure back up ruck. Chucked into ruck ahead of Fawcett. Fawcett has dropped right off selection.
Le fau comes in and Gray could rotate.more. he had to ruck vs gawn in the practice match.
He did a couple of nice things in general play. Give the guy some minutes

Sure he played 40 minutes and had 2 lousy touches. He had 2 worse ones against the Dee's in 20 mins..... so effectively 1 effective touch out of 4 in an hour of footy going at 25% efficiency against 2 lousy teams. Blight showed 10x more than Gray in the time they were picked up and after the club shafted him by refusing to select him 1 more time to trigger an extension he didn't drop his bundle he was BOG practically every week including a herculean effort against Werribee where he was plugging holes in Ruck, Fwd and Back.

Btw Blight had 17 possies (100% DE) and 8 marks in his last senior game against the Cats before the club shafted him and mysteriously dropped him............. yet plenty of Muppets swear it was the right choice...... I mean Gray took a nice one hander and did an ok spoil not bad output in a year and a half lol. If Gray isn't dropped there's no selection integrity. Burton is a better option as a backup ruck in all honesty. He can get beaten in the ruck too but will at least find the pill.

Gray looked good when he played past year as a back and has a heap of AFL traits. Blight is slow, that's a killer. At least give him more than 32 minutes of football to see how he goes. Had a great preseason according to the watchers, so they are rewarding that, but he played back not ruck, so they obviously rate him and want to get games into him.

Blight playing WAFL. We had a look at 2 SSP rucks, rejected both. OHB on the list. It looks like we are using bench no 5 spot for the low TOG ruck. Like soldo days. RFC out ran and sprinted Carlton round 1.
LYnch 2 goals million behind lost the game.

Was expecting more from gray , looked really lost out there . Certainly haven’t given up in him , but he has a bit to work on
they all have a bit to work on...
Do like that Gray seems to have some aggression to him.
Pump 30+ games into him, gains confidence and growth and he will be our swing man.

Like him too, but don’t think 2nd ruck is realistic long term.
He’s a 3rd tall defender. Which means he’s competing with Broad (last year) and Gibcus and Trainor.
I suppose if Miller and Balta are our long term KPD it then comes down to who is our best 3rd tall D.
If everyone is available I think I’d prefer to get games into Gibcus/Trainor.

He can also play forward. So having him as a backup forward and back and second ruck might give him more game-time.

Rd.1 only so a bit of time working it out.

Yeah he's a genuine full-ground utility can play literally anywhere. I'd be pumping games into him.

Agreed.
Eventually though Sims comes back in and plays 2nd ruck . They may even play Lefau in that role short term.
Then it’s down to team balance, Vlas comes back in and he plays tall.
Gibcus/Trainor/Gray /Broad, I’m not playing all of them, too similar. And the way the game is heading with recent rule changes , you need to be loading up with quick run/carry players.
