I know Riggy in particular is a fan of Davis up forward, after having watched him at North all 2009. Nothing wrong with learning your trade down back though!

Interesting to hear he'd like to get into the administration side of things after his career. He seems like a really good sort, I loved his reaction to the pH story, "I'll have to go and have a chat to him about that" :D

Interesting to note that he was keen to get into the forward line in the future. Doesn't really seem himself in defence in teh long term.

I remember when he got drafted i said he is a clone on Jonathon Brown.
I dont back away from that, he is a genuine gun CHF, Not CHB.
Still needs 1.5 years.

How do you see him as a clone? not flaming, just interested to see where you see the similarity is.

I saw him play a few times last season. and his movement, speed, marking ability, kick, strength, football smarts etc resemble JB so much. Look at him closely this season, and compare his attributes to those of JB, ive never seen a player resemble JB so much.
I know he has played mostly in defence, and JB is forward, but if you look closely you will see, we have the next JB with us.

Davis CHF / Tippet FF / Walker 3rd Tall = AA forward line 2013.\

Anyone else seen what i have?

Re: Free Agency - Which CROWS players are eligible in 2012?

crap interview.... 5 minutes on uni, photosynthesis and ph levels of a dude's pool. Burning question... has he even seen the new weights room in the new complex. Thought that would have been an obvious one.

Look forward to seeing more of him over the next 12 months.

Better let him get five kicks down back before you send him to CHF to kick five goals. Dont think he has the motor to play CHF. Looked tired at North last year playing out of the back pocket. Needs two more years.

I saw a lot of him last year and we have a fine talent who could easily become an AA KP at either end of the ground. All of these people saying he looks slow footed, etc will be presently surprised in 3-5 years.

I love the way he moves, his disposal, football smarts and not to mention his contested marking. Just oozes class. :thumbsu:

Wow, that's a big wrap! If that comes true we have a beauty on our hands!:thumbsu:

You mention his speed though, I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere on here that his 20m sprint is around 3.05, now I'm no expert but that sounds reasonable for a lad his size. But then again we had people after the Port game saying Davis looked slow! So is he or not??

Maybe it was just first game nerves and not keeping up with the game... and that's something that should improve over time. I've seen him live once and on the ABC a couple of times, he looked good forward and he didn't seem slow (although it was at SANFL level, the pace of AFL is another story altogether).

He's certainly no superstar in terms of speed, but the lack of pace displayed during the Port game looked to me like someone who was a bit overwhelmed and not really sure what he should be doing. I reckon it's more accurate to say that he was tentative and unsure rather than slow in that match.

Despite how much he continues to be hyped up around this place, I'm still far from sold.

Still very young and will need to stack on the kg's to be the player he's said to be capable of.

very true drummond

he is almost identical to Danger, you can see the gun in him but still needs a bit of work to finish it off

I want to spend more time watching him before I make an adjudication. I didn't exactly dedicate much time to watching North play last season. I keep hearing people say how good he'll be, and I don't just mean people here on Bigfooty. Presumably he has a lot of good traits, but he could definitely use bulk and/or pace. Generally you need one or the other to be a top-line AFL player.

From the few times I have seen him the thing I liked most about him was he always seem to have alot of time and appears to be cool under pressure. Also, his disposal is very good under pressure. He looks to me to be a genuine kpp. His lack of pace may prevent him from being a top notch forward but hey, at worst we may have found ourselves a highly skilled tall who can hold down CHB or FB for the next decade.

If they don't make it as a ruckman and forward, I'm hoping in Sellar and Davis, we have found the replacements for the post Bock/Rutten era. Exciting times:thumbsu:

Faith, I have said since day one our future forward line would/should be CHF Davis, FF Tippett, and Walker 3rd tall forward.

HF Knights Davis Gunston
FF Walker Tippett Porps

Looks pretty impressive for 2011 at best maybe 2012. For now I would rather McKernan up there until Davis develops.

There are absolutely no question marks over him once he has the ball, has a great footy brain, great game knowledge, good aerial ability (shown when played up forward), good at ground level. Only challenges for him at moment are his size (weight) and ability to stay close to his opponent when defending.

Will be a gem. After watching training the other day, hearing and seeing him up close really gave me renewed confidence. 2010 may not be his year but he'll certainly carve up for North and really push for the crows team off and on this year.

Would anyone say that his development might be similar to Hentschell with out the car crash injury? He seems to have a similar build and assets (smart, good off the deck, not quick). Also he's learning his trade from defense first.

There's some nice parallels and we all know what a player Rowdy could've been if not for a certain Power player.

Thats the forward line i had in my head.
To tell you the truth i dont like mcKern much up forward, i think they are wasting his talent.
He should be a ruckman/attacking CHB.

Great to hear Phil talk, it clearly shows he has a good head on his shoulder. Cornes as usual ruins the interview by taking 5 minutes to frame every question and in doing so asks the same question answered only 3 minutes before hand. Damn he's crap!
Phil's intelligence is a bit overrated. He's certainly a smart cookie, but in judging his 99.5 TER it might be worth considering that the average TER at Saints in 2009 was about 90! He's good, but as Phil said, VB's got him covered.

Phil will make it and will probably end up the AFLPA President or future CEO. Just too clued in to fall for the 'football' only mentality.

For those not sold on his football ability, I think he will be about 2 years from seeing his true ability (adding size and fitness base), but once he does we will see just how good he really is. I have no doubt he's a future AA player and could be the Captain after Dangerfield!

Are you sure about that? That would (literally) mean that average Saints player is in the top 10% in the country, as well as obviously being a fantastic athlete. That seems unlikely to me. That being said, perhaps the systems other than the SACE system do their scoring differently. Only a few of the Saints player would have gone through the SACE system after all.

A TER of 99.5 is an extremely good score, and assuming there were 20,000 students doing year 12 in SA and NT combined in 2008 (which is around the usual number) places him around student #100 in that lot. However, as Phil says, scoring highly in year 12 has a lot to do with hard work and good memory retention rather than natural smarts. Being at St. Peters would also have helped him since the SACE system expects your classmate's scores to form a bell curve, and scales your exam grades up or down accordingly. Also, if you're even remotely good at the sciences and maths you get a nice boost, as in general people aren't very good at them and you get scaled up again.

I assumed you meant Saint Kilda FC :o Even so, 99.5 is a brilliant result.

As for VB having it over him, I suppose work you do at University automatically trumps any work done at high school. I'll be fascinated to see how Davis goes at Uni though. I wonder what he'll do?

Of course, I'll be infinitely more fascinated to see what he does on the footy field :o

Yeah I was thinking that as well :thumbsu:. I think he will be awesome once he develops. The skills and creativity of Hentschel with the height and contested marking ability of a Tippett (slightly shorter of course). Perfect CHF. We just have to be a bit more patient with him as he looks to be developing slowly physically.
