If Daniher goes this will be similar to when Neagle left for Sydney, but not as bad as when Wanganeen left for Port.

Make no mistake it'll suck big time, but it's up to the club to turn it into something resembling a positive. It has to be said that my confidence levels at them making that happen aren't exactly sky high at the moment though.

I get that, but Neagle wasn't arguably the clubs best player at that time. That was Madden who the Swans basically drove a truckload of cash and dumped it on his lawn, and he still said no.

Am I the only one who thinks the media being told before the club is completely ridiculous? Let's wait until it's official before we go into hysterics.

The club would know as much as the media does. You can tell in the way Campbell etc speak. They know he wants out. But they’re obviously still going to try to talk him around rather than just coming out with “he wants to leave”.

See how they go, I guess. But I think his head has been turned. Laters Joey

My comment was regarding how I perceive the players and my supporter-based emotional ties to them. Sometimes you feel strongest about the best or most important player, other times you feel that way about other players for reasons that are hard to tie down.

Madden leaving would've been like when Wanganeen left for me, an absolute favourite of mine at that particular time. Daniher is a step down from that for me but is still a player I love when up and about and I'll be equal parts pissed off and shattered if he goes, just not to the same level as when Wanganeen left.

Why is nobody talking about getting players in return for JD? I am interested in all of Parker, MCcartin, Florent and Hewett.

And Sydney is interested in not trading any of Parker, McCartin, Florent and Hewett.
If it’s player(s) you’re after, think you’d be better off looking elsewhere and moving the picks from Sydney to somewhere else.

I don’t get why we aren’t interested in this bloke. Fits the age. Plays consistently. Kicks goals and takes marks.

Tend to agree though have t seen him a huge amount the last couple of years.

Can play deep and clunk it or create a soft crumb or push up to the ball carrier further afield. Appeals as a good foil for Smack - who can’t continue to be our only marking target inside 50 and down the line.

But he does seem to have gone off the boil the last couple of years...dont know what has happened.

We know this how?

Nobody is interested in trading good players until push comes to shove and deals need to get done.

Very sad but the club needs to drive a hard bargain.

One thought I had this morning is that GWS winning the flag could help us out as it will put a bit more pressure on Sydney to make this happen, to create a few headlines and bounce back up the ladder.

What a mess!

We better sort out why something like this could even fester into what its become as we are at risk of becoming an academy for other clubs. We are already a bit of a free hit where any players who show promise get the big shiny lure thrown at them constantly (which is normal) but ours always seem to leave this option open as a bank lever.

Winning connected cultures quell this BS. I don't see anyone wanting out of Ricmond, Collingwood, Westcoast, also up and comers like Brisbane and you could even throw GWS in there now after they've cleaned out their mercenaries and LTI stagnation players while starting to hit their tagets.

The very thought of why Joe has even considered this in the first place is very very concerning.

Sorry, I'm getting a bit emotional about this now after reflection and how our team seems to always get ankle tapped on any progression we try to make.

Will everyone just chill. I mean what exactly are we going on other than a coffee and media speculation? What maybe a bit of niggle by his manager to get the most for him and his client? We are in the box seat here. Relax.

And even if he does leave let's take a more positive (see delusional) approach.

IF he does leave it won't be to Sydney, this is the Buddy situation all over again. All the smoke is blowing the right direction but landing at the wrong location.
He's actually just keen to get out of the bubble and Essendon is facilitating it with GWS for Cameron. Straight swap.
Cameron wants out next year and definitely will after they win the flag this week, he's good mates with Dev and Shiel and Joe just wants anonymity.

Done.
Everyone's happy. Hope is restored.

I'm happy for this situation to proceed if Daniher wants to get out of the Melbourne bubble. I would love to see him reach his full potential and would also love Cameron in our team. Everyone is a winner.

This post is worthy of a free coffee. Harley's shout.

Best case scenario. I also don’t dislike GWS so I’d be ok with him going there.

Wonder what Lloyds getting at with the number of coaches? Saga? Bomba as caretaker? Neeld fiasco? XC's Transition year masterpiece?

Add to that the apparent poor injury management and who can blame Joe for leaving. We've clearly sold hope (and $$$) to some good players to bring them in but this crap and more (poor fitness and preparation for 2 seasons in a row now (and probably many more) has been Joe's Essendon experience from the start.

Good luck Joe and I hope you have a long and successful career in Sydney.

Probably been said, but Sydney need to offer his worth disregarding his injury time off. If they don't we are way better off holding him one more year so that his stocks rise again. But then i'm not ofay with how the compo picks work? What would we get for a fit and firing JD at the end of next year? Anyway, it also gives him time to change his mind and realign priorities in VIC.

Not emotional. You’re spot on.

The biggest question for us is why the **** he’d want to leave. It needs to be fixed if it’s a problem from our end.

He had the choice to make when he was 18 and chose Essendon, having been wooed by Hird. Hird gets chopped for a year then Bomber comes in. Then Hird comes back for a hellish year. Then Worsfold comes in for a few years, now he’s in the departure lounge and there’s another senior coach.

It’s not a very stable environment re coaches.

Since he was drafted at the end of 2012:

Senior coach:
Hird > Bomber > Hird > Worsfold > Worsfold+Rutten

Assistant in charge of Team Offence:
(created position) > Harding > Caracella

Forwards line coach:
Egan > Skipworth > Corrigan > ?
