Sorry for going from Phil Collins to Justin Bieber? Not sure I can accept your apology...
Look, I really don’t deserve forgiveness.

So reporters say his "family" told them he's leaving but his dad just publicly stated he'll be staying. Who to believe

Think you will find the comment also included "friends". So between family and friends their is a decent pool of people who may make a comment. It could stem from something as simple as Joe saying to anyone he could use a fresh start even if he is not going to act on it.

Reporters do get a lot of stuff right and now days they do not last long if they make too many monumental stuff ups. You have to remember managers and opposition clubs often drive these stories behind the scenes as well. There is no doubt that despite Sydney not making an official offer they will be feeding the rumour mill behind the scenes.

Maybe it has been all just for contract negotiations after all

I guess the issue here is that Daniher hasn't come out and said it's bullshit and he'll be at Essendon next year. Instead we got all these cagey comments like "I'll be here if they want me" and "As far as we know he'll be here next year" which leave a lot of room for speculation.

Sometimes you tell people what they want to hear to avoid an awkward situation.
So lying would have been preferable to saying, for example, "Joe's his own man. That's a question for Joe." Or, "That's not my business to comment on, sorry." Nothing awkward about playing a straight bat. Anthony has played in front of 10s of thousands. I'm sure he can handle a question.

Essendon is adamant key forward Joe Daniher will remain a Bomber in 2020 despite increasing speculation he is angling for a move to Sydney.

Speculation has been rife Daniher is entertaining a switch to the Harbour City since it was revealed he had met with Swans chief executive Tom Harley last month.

Bombers football manager Dan Richardson declared tonight: “He’ll be playing for Essendon next year”.

It came after Fox Footy reported Daniher wanted to join Sydney and was unhappy with how his groin issues have been handled.

Richardson denied the 25-year-old had any concerns with how he had been treated.
“He’s expressed to us he’s got full faith in our medical team and they’ve worked really hard with him,” he said.

“As far as we know, that’s the case.”

Richardson said Daniher had not requested a trade.

“The facts are he’s contracted next year. We’d fully expect he’s playing in an Essendon jumper next year,” he said.

He said Essendon was unaware why Daniher’s future had been the source of trade rumours.

“His rehab is progressing well, recovering well and training hard at the moment. He’ll be playing for Essendon next year,” he said.

Daniher has only managed 11 games in the past two years due to persistent groin injuries.

Taken straight from the clip of Dan Richardson that’s freely available on the essendon website by the look of it.
Yeah I realised after reading the article.
