Player Watch #7: Daniel Butler

pick 39 is way overs and won't happen, more likely another sam lloyd situation so pick 60 will do it

As already been noted he is 23 years of age and a premiership player. We are entitled to a pick that we can actually use, more so as this draft is reportedly very speculative beyond pick 30. Pick 39 is not 'way overs'. Plus it's Carlton, we owe them no favours after Yarran. If a rubbish pick in the 60's is the best they can do, I'd rather delist him and let Gold Coast or Melbourne pick him up for nothing. Anyhow if 39 is too much let them have our pick 67 as a sweetener. We have been arguably the best team of the last three years to this point, it's not unreasonable to expect some decent return for our exiting players.

Not sure what the Blues board is like, but there are many haters on here.
If Butler has 2 good games in a row it'll be back to a jizz fest in his honour.
He's been out of form this year but could easily bounce back. Would be a good pick up for your mob.

You won't like it, but out of form for two years and was inconsistent in '17.
Easily replaced - no room for sentiment.

We don't owe any club favours, but Yarran?
Every man and his dog knew Yarran had issues, we rolled the dice.

Yes Yarran. So you think they were completely up front and honest about the extent of his issues? The club that 'demanded' a first rounder for damaged goods to the last possible moment, and thereby made it very difficult for us to engage in any other trade activity? No, no we don't owe any favours to any club, but especially so in the case of Carlton.

That's very contradict while in season we back him in and say he has a future, but in season finals he is looking for the exit door. lol
What I meant is that dimma would say that publicly about all players .. but what is being said to butler might be different
Hope that makes sense

I just heard the news... this is pretty disrespectful seeking out a new club when we still in finals, what if we get injuries to our small forwards and can't pick him because he is out the door! bad move on his part if we make the GF he def won't be picked lol.

Why is it disrespectful?

We hit up Lynch, Yarran, Prestia etc... during the season too. It’s how the game works.

Imo it's quite petty for a professional football team to not pick a player soley because he wants out, you pick your best team regardless.

Butler isn't best 22 but if we get an injury, no reason why he shouldn't play.

Just read through this thread ...seems he is pretty useless and washed up as a player ..so a pick in the lat 40's should suffice ;)

I’m one of those that rate him. Hasn’t been the same since his syndesmosis injury. Definitely capable. He may just need a fresh start. Also a lot of competition for his spot. If you pick him up and get him playing close to his 2017 best he’s s very handy player

Lynch & Prestia played for a bottom team that weren't competing for finals... this guy still has finals in the VFL and would be pushing for AFL finals if we get injuries, I'm sure he is putting his hand up for selection every week!

We met them well before finals was decided.

Dusty met with Norf too. There’s a reason whispers get out about players moving clubs.

It’s part and parcel of the modern game, clubs are making moves (especially ours) 2-3 years in advance, so we should expect it from players too. It’s not disrespectful at all as long as while Butler is a Richmond player he gives his all.

Spot on. It’s not like it’s a done deal. He could very well stay and him performing at his peak benefits him and the club at this time of year.

Players are much more professional than sometimes they’re given credit for

I totally understand he’s got his own career to look after, plenty of blokes tour club facilities and have meeting with clubs. Doesn’t mean they’re doing anything wrong or even that they’ll sign for that club.

However to be touring another clubs facilities the week before finals is rather odd, especially with him banging on the door.

He’s only a Rioli, Bolton or Castagna injury, suspension or howler out of the team.

Yeah, yeah, at least he didn't turn up in a Jeep though. Had his non-de script tradies van to fix the pipes, who would have guessed it was him other than some blood sucking journo?!

If Richmond didn't do its due diligence I'm ok with it. Richmond knew there were issues but still went there.
It matters not, but Richmond were not up front and honest when dealing a severely damaged Jeff Hogg to Fitzroy back when. Ask Hoggy, he'll tell you exactly as he told me. It happens all the time .. no club is immune. You just can't bring yourself to fathom that we rolled the dice on Yarran and lost. Ancient history but well documented. There are posters on here who know how troubled he was ... Fact!
