So what's the solution? He was a need, but now isn't in his best position. Develop and trade?
Given we have Merrett, Parish, Durham, Caldwell, Perkins clearly ahead of him in the pecking order, Tsatas coming through, and then guys like Setterfield and Shiel that he's almost in direct competition for, if he requested a trade to a suitor then the least we should do is listen and see what chips get put on the table.

The fact they want to keep playing him in other spots says they will not be looking. Do not under estimate how well he is developing as a leader behind the scenes.Given we have Merrett, Parish, Durham, Caldwell, Perkins clearly ahead of him in the pecking order, Tsatas coming through, and then guys like Setterfield and Shiel that he's almost in direct competition for, if he requested a trade to a suitor then the least we should do is listen and see what chips get put on the table.
It's more if suitors come to him with a deal and guarantees of midfield time that we can't honour, and he decides he's interested. Rather than flat out knocking it back we might as well see what others are willing to trade for him while we have the whip hand which we lost next year when his contract expires. The fact they want to keep playing him in other spots says they will not be looking. I doubt he is looking anywhere while he is in a team that is on the rise. Midfield or not. It's more if suitors come to him with a deal and guarantees of midfield time that we can't honour, and he decides he's interested. He doesn't have to look far to see that opportunities can open up and if they do then you grab them. Parish, Perkins and Caldwell have all spent large chunks playing at half forward and grabbed opportunities when they presented, now they're spending far greater minutes in there and making an impact. It'll be up to Ben when it's his turn.
Good to hear he's developing into a leader though, I hadn't heard that.
...and trade up for Kako.Given we have Merrett, Parish, Durham, Caldwell, Perkins clearly ahead of him in the pecking order, Tsatas coming through, and then guys like Setterfield and Shiel that he's almost in direct competition for, if he requested a trade to a suitor then the least we should do is listen and see what chips get put on the table.
Then add Alwyn jnr as the rover to replace Parish in 2026Yup, play him and Tsatas together in the VFL to gain experience, learn the game plan together. And when one of the harder mids goes down then they will be ready to replace. Both will be firing chock full of confidence and might grab and hold onto a spot. Find a proper small forward from somewhere...throw the war chest at someone that fits the bill.
