Delisted 8: Ben "Goblin" Hobbs - Delisted - 20/10

So what's the solution? He was a need, but now isn't in his best position. Develop and trade?

Given we have Merrett, Parish, Durham, Caldwell, Perkins clearly ahead of him in the pecking order, Tsatas coming through, and then guys like Setterfield and Shiel that he's almost in direct competition for, if he requested a trade to a suitor then the least we should do is listen and see what chips get put on the table.

Stringer is taking a lot of CBAs at the moment too.

Long-term Hobbs is the guy you'd expect taking the physical contact week-in-week-out so that Perkins / Durham can use their movement from stoppages.

Tsatas is the one that you'd hope has the build and power to break contact like Stringer can.

Ben just needs to be patient. He's being made to a role that highlights his weaknesses so he can focus on fixing them, which is similar to what they did with Caldwell in the 22 and 23 seasons. I doubt he moves to any another club and goes to the top of the pecking order anyway.

Would like him to clean up his disposal but I do think he is starting to take the first option more often and hasnt got caught holding the ball as frequently in recent games.
But I think people are being harsh on him, hes paying his role well enough. He isnt going to get high possession with how little midfield time he gets but he applies alot of pressure and fights tooth and nail to win any loose ball.
After last week a lot of the analysis about our improvement this year was focused on how hard we are to play against. We are at the elite level for pressure most games and rank highly for stopping opposition clearances after they get first touch on the ball. Hobbs may not be performing to the level of Duz and Caldwell but I think he is one of the guys contributing to this improvement in our defensive mindset.

The fact they want to keep playing him in other spots says they will not be looking. Do not under estimate how well he is developing as a leader behind the scenes.

It's more if suitors come to him with a deal and guarantees of midfield time that we can't honour, and he decides he's interested. Rather than flat out knocking it back we might as well see what others are willing to trade for him while we have the whip hand which we lost next year when his contract expires.

He doesn't have to look far to see that opportunities can open up and if they do then you grab them. Parish, Perkins and Caldwell have all spent large chunks playing at half forward and grabbed opportunities when they presented, now they're spending far greater minutes in there and making an impact. It'll be up to Ben when it's his turn.

Good to hear he's developing into a leader though, I hadn't heard that.

I doubt he is looking anywhere while he is in a team that is on the rise. Midfield or not.

...and trade up for Kako.

Yup, play him and Tsatas together in the VFL to gain experience, learn the game plan together. And when one of the harder mids goes down then they will be ready to replace. Both will be firing chock full of confidence and might grab and hold onto a spot. Find a proper small forward from somewhere...throw the war chest at someone that fits the bill.
Then add Alwyn jnr as the rover to replace Parish in 2026

Good god, no wonder his form has dropped off :'(:'(:'(:'(
