That's a brilliant photo, even on an iPhone! I love flying, and I've been lucky enough to have been overseas a whole bunch (was born overseas) in the past few years. I seem to be the only person in the world who doesn't mind a bit of plane food either! :P

half the collingwood team will be getting on a plane for the first time in a couple of weeks LOL

I love to fly too, been lucky (like you) to have been overseas a fair bit, even though I was born in Oz.

The long flights do take a little bit of the thrill out of flying though, after 10 hours on a plane you sort of get sick of the whole looking out the window or small screen movie thing, but it's still a great feeling to know how far up you are.

And you never know, before most of us see our used by date come up, we may be able to fly to the moon.:p:D

The first time you fly it really is a lovely, magical experience...especially when flying domestic.

The magic wears off after a few flights, and is replaced by a murderous rage directed towards the reclining arseh*le in the seat in front, the smelly bastard to your left and the continuously crying toddler behind you. If this happens to be a long-haul flight, you will slowly but surely begin to wish for the the entire plane to spontaneously combust and plummet into the ocean below, instantly killing all aboard. Death, you will no doubt think, is going to be totally worth it as long as I can get some peace and legroom.

Off on a long-haul flight on Friday. Can't wait.

Long flights don't bother me too much these days with all the amenities they now have. I flew from Frankfurt - Qatar - Melbourne a few months ago and they had power points in every seat so I just plugged my laptop in and watched every movie I had on my ext HDD and played like 8 hours of Civilizations 5! Was awesome :D

I'm off to China in 2 weeks, going via Malaysia which I've never done before and I'm going solo which is always a bit of a thrill :thumbsu:

Yeah, I fly Qatar when I can, it's brilliant value/quality. But I'm 6"0 with long limbs, so if someone decides to recline back, it makes it nearly impossible to use my laptop or even read comfortably.

Do you recall what sort of power-point the plane had? did you need an adapter?

It was actually a universal point on each seat, so it would fit UK/Euro/US/Aus! Was pretty thrilled when I noticed it, had never seen it before on another carrier.

****en ROFL.....
You're a stewardesses nightmare...:D:D:D

Just thought I'd let you all I know that I recently went on a plane for the first time ever, just last week (I'm 20 :o ), albeit it was only to QLD from Melbourne, but nevertheless it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Great post, thanks for sharing.

I fly a bit and still enjoy it. There's obviously the teleport aspect to it. Kind of like getting into a cupboard, closing the door and sitting in there for a few hours. Then emerging to find the world's a different place. When you think about it that's pretty cool.

But I also enjoy the action of flying itself. The leadup is always stressful - packing, organising trip logistics, organising work stuff when a business trip, getting to the airport in time in traffic, did I forget anything?, etc. But once I strap myself into that airplane seat and the mobile phone is off and I've discharged any responsibilities or control I have over my world to the guy in front with the steering wheel, it is such a great stress relief that I'm asleep by most take-off's.

I'm 6'6 and unless i get an exit seat i am pretty much ****ed. I always try and get to the airport early enough to request an exit seat.

Flew to Fiji last year when i didn't have one, had to get up every 30 mins or so and walk around as my legs were squashed against the seat in front of me :(

1st flight was to great keppel island (via rockhampton) when i won chooklotto as an 18yo. the experience of that first blast of tropical air on arrival is amazing.
the holiday was great, but the flight home awful. 10 hour direct from rocky to melb on a DC9. 2nd flight wasnt til many years later for my honeymoon to fiji. again great holiday, and again the return flight a nightmare. the inflight movie was awful and for a 3am departure that didnt help.
and yes being tall is a disadvantage. bit like sitting at the G.
