Pros:
- Quick hands although perhaps a little too quick for his teammates
- 8 contested possessions is excellent for an 18 year old on debut
- 23 possessions on debut, got plenty of the ball
- 5 inside 50's is very good and it'll be even better once he gets a target to kick to in the forward line
- Very good hands in traffic, noticed a few very good decisions that resulted us getting a clearance because of a handball from Trengove

Cons:
- 57% disposal efficiency, I'm not condemning him by any means seeing as it's his first game but he'll be looking to be a bit more efficient next week
- Could have kicked his first goal but couldn't beat that last line of defence

Does he keep his spot? Bloody oath he does, very promising game from a kid who would no doubt have been overcome with nerves throughout the day and got no sleep last night. He gets a maximum of two games off for rest IMO, he's capable of playing all 22 games if we want him to. Trengove showed me today that he is indeed capable of making a very big impact if he gets support from guys such as Moloney, Sylvia and Jones in the engine room.

Re: 9. Jack Trengrove

I can't decide whether this is sad or exciting, but yesterday we looked more likely to get a clearance when our midfield setup was Jamar, McKensie, Trengove and Scully! The two first gamers looked far more likely to get it out then the senior boys!

Lots to like bout Trengove though, he will be something special. Whether him or Scully ends up the better player is going to be a thoroughly enjoyable debate for Melbourne supporters!

Pros:
- 8 tackles
- Very good in the link-up passages of play by both hand and foot
- Tough as nails
- Held his own against more mature bodies in the middle

Cons:
- 54% efficiency, will get better with more games under his belt
- 2 FA's

Does he keep his spot? Yes he does, didn't get as much of the ball as last week but that's of little importance. Got into the tackling game this week which is good to see, especially playing against more experienced and physically framed bodies. The passage of play on the half-back flank where he outfoxed his opponent and then delivered a picture perfect pass to Scully (who unfortunately dropped the mark) sent a shiver up my spine. Jack Trengove and Tom Scully are the future, no doubt about it.

*Can someone correct the thread title?

Re: 9. Jack Trengrove

Loved his tackling pressure on the weekend, great work and has a great turn.

Pros:
- 23 disposals
- Kicked his first career goal and put us in front
- Massive roar after he kicked the goal when coming off the ground

Cons:
- 61% although better than last week it does need some improvement but of course it will come with more experience

Does he keep his spot? Without a doubt, was very good today gathering 23 disposals and kicking a goal to put us in front. He runs very hard as well which is always pleasing to see in a player, doesn't mind getting in the thick of things which is great. I'm expecting a very big game from Jack next week when he plays a young and a lot weaker midfield than what he has come up against thus far in his career.

Does he keep his spot? Oh God yes, this kid is something special and I'm forever grateful that we didn't have to choose between Scully and Trengove. These two will be superstars of the competition in the coming years and the best thing about them are? They're Demons. Also as we've seen over the past couple of weeks that as time goes on, his disposal we become better and better as it's been extremely superb these past 2 weeks.

Young Demon's Rising Star turn

trengove-celebrates-246a.jpg

JACK Trengove from Melbourne is the NAB AFL Rising Star nominee for round five.

Trengove was a standout as the Demons scored their third successive victory in an upset over the undefeated Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Saturday night.

In a best on ground performance, the 18-year-old gathered a career-high 24 disposals, including six marks, four tackles and two goals to lead the Demons to a 50-point victory.

Trengove has played all five matches this season after making his debut against Hawthorn in round one. He has averaged 20 possessions and is ranked sixth overall at the club for both disposals and tackles.

Originally from Kybybolite Football Club in South Australia, Trengove was selected by Melbourne with pick two in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft after a standout year where he was named All-Australian at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and South Australia’s most valuable player.

Trengove is Melbourne’s first Rising Star nominee for 2010 and the clubs sixth nominee since the 2008 season.

Round 6 - vs Norf at Jiihad Stadium

DT Score: 59
SC Score: 63

Pros:
- Lifted in the 3rd quarter when the team did
- Kicked a goal, seems to be able to snag a goal most weeks

Cons:
- Quiet game with little impact
- Could have gone by foot a little more
- Not entirely clean disposal during the game

Does he keep his spot? Yes, he'll learn more and more with every poor performance and every good performance. He's capable of playing all 22 games this season and I believe he should. What is very promising is that he's kicked a few goals this season and if there is one thing that we need more of it is goal kicking midfielders, if he can continue this then it will decrease the amount of pressure on the forward line to kick goals.

Round 7 vs Western Bulldogs at the MCG

Pros:
- Started out like a house on fire and was racking up possessions left, right and center
- 1 behind, although I'd rather a goal the point here is that he's getting into positions to have shots on goal which is what we want
- The 11 contested possessions, both he and Scully aren't afraid to go and get the ball for themselves regardless of who is going for it

Cons:
- Few kicks strayed off the boot and ended up being turned over but in those conditions it's very hard to kick perfectly every time.
- 62% disposal efficiency, he started out very well hitting targets but in the end he started shanking kicks a bit too often due to the shithouse weather

Does he keep his spot? As I say every report, yes he does. This kid is a straight up gun and should be given every game to show the country that he is in fact a future superstar of the Melbourne Football Club and the AFL.

Now I'm all caught up :p

Cons:
- 20 possessions for little impact
- Not going by foot enough

Does he keep his spot?
Yes he does (and did :p), he is getting a lot of the ball but seems to be a bit reluctant to kick and he wasn't the only one in that game but for a kid with such a good kick going by hand far more than by foot is discouraging for me. Was good to see him get some clearances, can't wait until he's dominating the clearances in a couple of years along with Scully.

Pros:
- Being the third man up to double fist the ball through when scores were tied
- 5 clearances
- 6 tackles
- Superstar

Cons:
- Not using that boot enough Jack

Does he keep his spot? Oh dear God yes, this kid is an absolute gem. I cannot tell you how impressed I was to see Jack be the third man up and smash that ball through for a point, it was the act of an extremely smart and mature headed player. 5 clearances and 6 tackles, again so f***ing impressive. However I really really would like to see Jack going by foot more in the future than he is currently, he is a very good kick and I believe he could be much more damaging if he turns some of those handballs into kicks. Extremely great game Jack Trengove.

His ability to gather the ball cleanly off the ground in such slipery conditions was a standout.

Most of his handballs were to our advantage.

The matching winning rush behind, great effort from a kid in his 9th game.

Great tackle on Rodan, about the only way to catch that bloke is to get him from the blindside!

Thanks for the 4 points jack. :)

Would it be fair to say that Jack would (or should) be leading Naitanui for the rising star? He'd be averaging 20+ possessions this year and the only other previous Rising Star winner to do that was Rhys Palmer.

If he averages this all year, could be the ultimate travesty if he doesn't win.

Cons:

- 5 Clangers

Does he keep his spot?
Yep another learning experience for Jack, I did like the fact that he went by foot more even if he wasn't exactly very efficient by foot we know he is a good kick and those conditions weren't exactly kicking friendly. 4 tackles and 4 clearances in the wet is extremely encouraging, even if it wasn't his best game he is showing very good signs in different facets of his games.
