The myth already outgrows the man:

1. Patrick Cripps will not let the Blues be easybeats this season
If there is one player who will make Carlton a more competitive outfit this year it is Cripps. The midfield star is a clearance specialist and it is his dominance in that area that will help the Blues prevent the 10-goal blowouts that have become too regular in the past two seasons. In three quarters against Richmond on Thursday night, Cripps racked up a game-high 10 clearances and helped the Blues get the ball moving their way. The result was an inside 50 advantage of 57-46. Only once in 2014 (in a 40-point win over St Kilda) did the Blues enjoy such an advantage. - Nathan Schmook

Nevermind he was already a clearance machine last year to little effect. Oh and the shoddy cause-effect relationship between clearances and inside 50 advantage.

I love Cripps, he will be a superstar, possibly already is, but taking the team ethic approach and high pressure game plan and pretending Cripps does it himself...

I don't think he is "elite" just yet but he is tracking unbelievably well. He is just so confident when people are about to tackle him that he will be able to get the ball away to a good option, he is just so unphased by people trying to tackle him it's a pleasure to watch.

Needs to improve his kicking to be considered elite but I am confident with the way he continues to work hard to improve himself, this will improve as he gains more and more confidence.

Still trying to get my head around how he managed to extract the ball out to his team mates in some of the positions he found himself on Thursday night.
Anyone remember those 'Office Linebacker' ads with Terry Crews (I think)? Someone needs to do a new series with Cripps.

Office worker sees the shredder is full and walks away.
Football flies in from the side and smashes them in the face.
Shot of Cripps across the other side of the office with coffee mug and paperwork in hand.

"Our office extractor has improved productivity several fold. The fear of receiving a red-hot handball to the face from seemingly out of nowhere has just got everyone on their toes all day"

Only thing he needs to work on is his kicking at goal, other than that he is almost there, just another year of consistency.

Or team him up with Diesel for a remake of the Jordan vs Bird 'nothin but net' ad...

Elite i reckon he is very close.... IMO to be considered Elite you would need to be in the top 5 players in your position and for a midfielder i would say he needs to have an All Australian cap before he is considered elite. I suspect by seasons end he may very well be All Australian and the discussion is mute.

Meh, like i said IMO. Not worth anything, but i'd have him replace duckwood in that 5. Point i'm trying to make is that it's not much of a stretch to see him amongst this group. If not now, sooner rather than later.

Watching draftees coming through the AFL system can be fascinating. Seeing which ones end up becoming stars and which end up on the scrapheap.

I had no idea how Cripps would go last year as the season started. But in what was otherwise awful year, he kept getting better and better. Will be very interesting to see how good he can get. With him, Kreuzer, Murphy and Gibbs I think we've got an underrated midfield.
