I might do another one when he reaches 50 games. After that, I think his work will speak for itself (as if it doesn't already).
His numbers look immense, but they also highlight a near and present risk of a Judd like over-reliance on his clearance work...which will in turn stunt the development in other areas of his game. I think the need for a running mate to help on the inside is urgent.

Here you go guys. Somebody mentioned this the other day and I thought it would be interesting to see. I finally got around to whipping something up.
I don't know how/if you can attach a spreadsheet, so I just screenshot it.
Comparing the first 25 games for all these players. I've tried to include a number of players that are similarly good in certain stat areas, along with a few players that Cripps has been compared to over the course of his games. If anybody else can think of other players they'd like to see him compared to, let me know, because now that I have the sheet set up, it's not too hard to add more.
The bottom table I have adjusted all stats based on playing 100% game time to even out the differences. This left Judd and Mitchell out on the cold as game time % wasn't recorded for their first full 25 games.
From the stats, it would appear the Danger spent a fair bit of time forward early on. Have also included W/L ratio, as I think that can have an affect on how easy a player might have it in a team, but can't really be calculated or adjusted for. Cripps is the standout for playing on the worst team and Selwood had a dream run in his 1st 25.

That's fricking awesome, C'n'BB! Love it :thumbsu:

Just wondering if you could highlight the #1 AND #2 ranked in each stat in Green (maybe use two shades) and do the same for bottom 2 in Red?

Just think it helps to highlight strengths and weaknesses better than just leader/loser.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, it'll add a few more greens to Cripps' total

Whiley needs to be put in and left in... Both inside beasts with hard heads and tackling machines...

That is the kind of thinking that lead to recruiting Brock. We need to get it right this time round.

Good idea. Will have a look at changing. Probably won't be today though.

?

Joining some pretty distant dots there.

Cripps needing help is a pretty inarguable opinion. Not sure if it is a trend but both Gibbs and Murphys contested numbers are way down on last year...we are absolutely leaving Cripps to fend for himself.

It doesn't necessarily need to be via trade. I'd be happy assigning Gibbs a far more inside focused role...he's big enough and good enough. Graham might be a candidate. Whiley looks less likely but perhaps he is given an extended go.

Having to fend off three would be tacklers each possession is simply not sustainable. It'll fast track Cripps to the sort of condition Judd came across from WCE.

You love Whiley more then Cringle loved Watson.

Hope you take his delisting alright in the next year or two.

Haha, I think you'll find that I was his biggest critic last season and got into him about his lack of everything...

I've changed my tune because of his lack of fitness last season(carrying injuries through season) and his application and efforts during the preseason(training sessions)...

He has some fans in the selection committee...!

He will get a chance and has the ability to go past a couple which are currently in the side...!

He doesn't seem to be moving that well at the moment. I think the knee is still worrying him a little.
got the good word (although i wouldnt call it that) over the weekend that his knee is giving him no end of grief and holding him back, particularly in the contested stuff... he's still impressive considering.
just hope it doesnt make life harder for him in years to come.

This is pretty bad too. Cripps is equal leader in the AFL for average clearances with Selwood, but look at how it drops off after him from a team perspective.
Tackles isn't much better. He's equal 10th in the league.

That's both impressive and terrifying. Our clearances are largely a one man show.

^^^^^

I want to like that post in a sign that C'n'BB makes a great point.

But it feels too dirty liking a post that highlight's Cripps' lack of support.

So....

The senior 'leaders' alongside Cripps are doing exactly what they did when Judd was playing - leaving the hard work to CrippsJudd - like anyone expected anything different? If we like Cripps - we need to surround him with helpers - not bludgers - otherwise he will learn to to do just a but more than the next guy...which by numbers posted above- isn't A grade.

Not having a crack at Curnow, because he is having a cracker start to the year, but I thought he might get a few more now that Carrots has gone and he's been let off the chain a bit more in regards to tagging.
Murphy and Gibbs are/should be playing more of an outside role, so I can understand their numbers taking a dip, but surely Cripps isn't the only one in there at the bounces? Kreuz is struggling when he's normally quite good in clearances. Graham should be on the front line with him. I'm assuming that Daisy will eventually play a bit more time rotating through the middle.
I know we are only 3 games into the season, but the middle is supposed to be where are strongest.

Cripps and Weitering are the only elite players in our side. Murphy, Gibbs are good players but don't rate amongst the AFL's best. Are the sorts who would be good players in good side but not key players in a good side unlike our side where they are key players. Great effort for two players who are so young but it's glaring of where our list is at.
