AFL Club
Adelaide
I Know this subject has been done to death but it is time we brought it up again.

IMO the reason the Adelaide Football Club has not a good track record of developing players is because we dont have control of where they play on a saturday. SANFL coaches dont care about the adelaide crows player's they have on there list and are they never play them in that players best postion, they are played where it will best suit that side on that given day or game. So this is an AFC reserves side that could have lined up last weekend.

F Rutten Perrie Kruger

HF S Stevens Watts Ladhams

c Reilly Bode Gallegher

HB Jericho Parker U/18 player

FB Andrews Smith U/18 player

R Biglands Skipworth Hazell

Int U/18 players

Coach Darren Jarman

Injurys will some time prevent a competitive side to be placed on the field, but if we fill the empty spots with kids from the state under 18 squad(fringe players) this will give them SANFL experience

Like l said before this subject has been dont to death and will never happen but if a player is on the AFC list they need to be controlled by an AFC coach.

But as a matter of interest what competition do you think they should play in?

Well the reason I enquired is that the SANFL owes the AFL absolutely bugger all! And would NEVER agree to it. Besides these days any State Under 18 with half an ounce of talent will end up playing SANFL league anyway.
I'm also actually trying to think of a Crows player whose development was irrepairably damaged by playing SANFL for his original or host club.

thats irrelevant...the SANFL has a vested interest in the AFC so its got nothing to do with the AFL..its the AFC!

there have been a handfull of players that have changed clubs, whether this has affected their development only the club and player would know....

well if it happened the team would play in the SANFL...

but it wont happen...so it dont matter...

But when the players arent playing with the Crows they play in the SANFL anyway so it defeats the purpose

Aren't the Crows meant to be the club for all South Australians? It doesn't make much sense to have them competing directly against them....every single Crows fan with an SANFL allegiance would be torn when the sides play; what a great way to kill the SANFL that would be.

Cant help you there but I can think of a couple who went back to their SANFL clubs while they were on the Crows list who thought they were a bit better than they were (hello Eugene!).

What I would like to see happen is to have all of the interstate draftees sent to one one SANFL club and get rid of the draft.

The SA guys who we draft from the local league are always well looked after IMO. They are always well received as they are local boys who have come up thru the junior ranks.

Its the interstaters that are of real concern. they're the guys who have a harder time of it.

They should leave the SA lads at their current clubs and send the Power interstaters to Port Magpies and the rest of out interstaters to Glenelg (for example) I think that would be a fair system.

yeah but the purpose would b to have them all play together and under an AFC assistant coach...much like the Brissie Lions reserve side plays in the QAFL...

It will never happen.

However, in dream land, I would like to see the AFC reserves play in the VFL. Not because I think the VFL is of a higher standard necessarily, but so the lads get used to having to travel every second week.

This would also allow our supporters in Melbourne more chance to see our lads, thereby strengthening the supporter base there.

Of course, the money issue would put an immediate stop to that idea. AFC could probably afford it, but the VFL clubs...

And of course the damage to our relationship with the SANFL would be shocking.

But we are only dreaming here, right?

yeah fantasy unfortunately...

but i like your idea :p

plus seeing as tho the AFC is effectively controlled by the SANFL i cant see them allowing an AFC Reserve side in the VFL...
