From the pics he certainly doesn't appear to lack for fitness, or match hardness.
Might just go alright, I'm thinking.

Footnote: Bit shocked to see a pic of someone getting away from Russell. I mean what the hells that all about?

I agree with HBF, also he does appear a bit of an 'unsavoury' character as to how/why he chose to leave the Demons in such circumstances ...

I'd pass on Johnson and rather go for the best available youngster in the PSD ...

As I have said, find it hard to get excited about someone who has been left Melbourne, and also because I have hardly seen him play.

HBF he asked to leave Melbourne, they wanted to keep him, so its not because he isn't any good he just realises that Melbourne is a hole (in the nicest way).
So I reckon he would be a good pick up:
- Another midfielder so more competition for places
- He has talent which he showed this year
- Could mean that with some one of out later picks we could look at a one more KP instead another midfielder if we get him in the PSD
- could play a on a small key defender, like Carrots but he can actually kick

Considering he isn't going to cost us anything, I reckon he is worth a shot and I hope we take him in the PSD

Wouldn't mind taking him, and really who wouldn't want to leave Melbourne? We got nothing to lose really.
People with balls who want to bring this club through its dark times?

Like all our other younger guys, who are intent about bringing the club back to a power on the field. They don't shirk the issue.

Enjoy Johnson, he's weak as piss, mentally and physically.

I bet you wern't saying that before he left your piss weak club.

Haha, i didn't even have him in my best 22 for next year. Go check the 2009 team on our board, where i did my post which was 3 weeks before he left.

He's a depth player, nothing more, nothing less.

And yes he is weak as piss, he strolls around the HBF getting cheap touches. Good disposal that turns to shit when the pressure is on.

So who cares if it's a small risk? If he isn't worth it in the end, we delist him.. Simple as that. Plus we won't be giving anything up for him and he won't be on much $$$. Scotland and Grigg will be ahead of him for the HBF role but theres nothing wrong with having a promising 22 year old coming in and out of the side.

From what I have seen of him, especially in that Brisbane game where he had 33 touches, he looks quick and uses the ball well and won't be under pressure as much as he was at the rabble that is Melbourne because we have players that will actually will protect him and sheppered. Not to mention the ball won't be coming into our back half close to as much as it did for Melbourne.

I think it would be great if we used Johnson as a tagger to run with the quick elite midfielders in the comp. Bentick has played this role simultaneous times but his lack of pace has hurt him so hopefully when we get Johnson, he will bring something to the table.

Melbourne wanted to keep Riley as an assistant now he's our assistant Melbourne threw everything to get Judd, now he's our captain, Melbourne were positive Warnock would be a dee... but he became a blue bagger. Melbourne had Johnson in their 'long term plans', now he's coming to us. Poor old Deeeees.

Melbourne is bitterly disappointed Johnson could not commit after investing four years into his development.

While Carlton's deal is non-negotiable, there is speculation he may have had to play a certain number of games to secure the second year of a two-year deal at Melbourne.
Carlton chief executive Greg Swann said yesterday the Blues hoped to secure Johnson but had only pick six in the pre-season draft.

"We are pretty sure he wants to come to us if he can get to us," Swann said.

"We have offered him a two-year deal. Obviously (Mark) 'Bomber' Riley knows a bit about him, but if it happens, it happens."

FB: Whelan Martin Frawley
HB: Rivers Garland Petterd
C: Morton Grimes Green(if he stays)
HF: Bruce Miller Bate
FF: Sylvia Watts;) Davey
R: PJ McLean Jones
Int: Maric Buckley Moloney Jamar
EMG: Warnock CJ Robbo

Depth: Bartram, Wheatley, JMac, Wonaeamirri, Picks 17/19(not for long though), Dunn, anyone else i've forgetton...

Thats actually not too bad a side i reckon.
With Martin at full back and Frawley in the back pocket, you're really going to hurt the opposition when they have the ball.

Johnson is a better footballer than Buckley.

Hard doesn't equal good...

Me thinks he'll be a depth player for you blokes, as I can't see him cracking your best 22 on a consistent basis. The likes of Browne, Grigg and Armfield are much better but best of luck with him:thumbsu:

Err... i don't know if you're being sarcastic or not? But Martin looked very promising this year.

200cm tall, 100kg yet SECOND in the grand final sprint.

Represented Australia in Basketball at U21 level before focusing on football. Looked good in the games he played this year, using the ball well, taking big marks and keeping his man quiet. Very excited, will be a gun full back. And we got him after Gourdis and Pfeiffer in the PSD, i think we know where they are now.

Frawley will also be a gun, Pick 12 in the 2006 draft, just needs to bulk up. Might not be ready for next year yet, but we'll wait and see.

A common misconception of many is that he needs to be in our best 22 because we are recruiting him.

Dare I say that most people picked up late in any draft probably aren't expected to be starting 22 players, at least not for a while.

I'd say we'll be very happy picking up Johnson if he could, at the very least, add some depth to our side, which is exactly what he would do.

You know you aren't going too flash when you have to reference a players success in the grand final sprint to prove a point.......

Was just pointing out his speed in comparison to his height and weight. Fantastic prospect.

The 2nd year of his contract was performance based.

Obivously Chris wasn't too confident that he could fill the requirement. :D

Still I don't know who he thinks he's kidding.

Your best 22?

Is this how you did it?

Oh so bitter :) Cute but when you consider how hard Connolly and co. tried to keep him, it seems not everyone at Melbourne shares your view. :thumbsu:
