Hey guys, I was at work all day and didn't get to see the match. I just have a few questions on how things went today.
- Who was our best, Foley, Brown, Conners, Tuck and Richo looked to be standouts?
- Who was our worst?
- Who was playing on Steve Johnson?
- How did McGuane and Thursty go, I see Thursty got 17 touches and 3 Frees For, good games?
- Tambling had 20 touches, was he better?
- Simmonds, Huges, and Riwoldt had no affect on the stats, how were their matches?
- How was Graham?
- Did Raines, King and Newman get killed again as small backman?

Cheers

OK, Foley was our best, but Connors certainly had an impact, Richo was pretty bad in the 1st Quarter but was then played up field a bit more and did quite well considering.

Our worst would have been Cleve Hughes, who only had 1 disposal, but for those who actually got the ball a bit it would've been Kane "Turnover King" Johnson, could not hit a target for his life.

Chris Newman was on Steve Johnson all day, and was out played in every single way, it came down to Johnson toying with Newman at almost every contest.

McGuane was really good today, played on NAblett and kept him goalless until about 5 minutes to go in the match, also kept him to 7 disposals for the whole game, Thursty was good, was getting outmanned by Mooney early on, but that is to be expected considering their contrasting sizes, eventually started to get on top and Mooney ended up getting frustrated and gave away a 50mtr penalty.

Tambling was ok, he wasn't damaging with his disposal, and was caught holding it a few times, don't know how it was 20 disposals as there were alot of half handpasses in there.

Simmonds looked really bad today, was out bodied a number of times by Blake, looks like he might need to sit out the rest of the year, Hughes was poor as said earlier, Jack was not bad, he couldn't get to the contest a few times and the ball slipped out of his hands a fair few times as well.

Gus was very good for a first time ruckman, amazingly had 5 more hitouts than Simmonds, did turn it over with the foot a couple of times but will definetly get a game next week.

Raines was not really seen all day, ran it out of defence pretty well but when it came time to actually defend I don't think I saw him once on an opponent, Newman is one not to be mentioned for this game, King played on Gary Ablett all day and didn't do a really bad job keeping Ablett pretty ineffectual, when King got the ball though he was pretty useless turning it over numerous times.

Hope that helps.:thumbsu:

"Newman is a GUN!"

Hmmmm...seems HBK has changed his tune this week after Newman's third defensive hiding in a row...

Hey guys, I was at work all day and didn't get to see the match. I just have a few questions on how things went today.
- Who was our best, Foley, Brown, Conners, Tuck and Richo looked to be standouts?

Brown was very average at best. The rest were pretty good - Connors and Foley the standouts in that order.

- Who was our worst?

Johnson...Bowden...take your pick...same as most weeks.

- Who was playing on Steve Johnson?

Chris Newman...AA defender...club champion...future captain...running around with his pants around his ankles for the third week in a row...like all our other defenders do when they're put in the gun due to the fact nobody upfield can keep us in the game.

- How did McGuane and Thursty go, I see Thursty got 17 touches and 3 Frees For, good games?

Thursty was good, McGuane ok...disposal lets him down and he'll get pumped again the next time he's on a good opponent until we can compete around the ground and give our defenders half a chance.

- Tambling had 20 touches, was he better?

Just ok...not terrible, not good. Didn't do a lot with his touches.

- Simmonds, Huges, and Riwoldt had no affect on the stats, how were their matches?

Simmonds was poor overall in the end, Hughes had zero impact and Reiwoldt did ok from very limited opportunities. Wouldn't hurt to play the big Sarge next week.

- How was Graham?

Competed quite well in the ruck, did little around the ground. Outplayed Simmonds though, which is downright frightening long term.

- Did Raines, King and Newman get killed again as small backman?

Raines played midfield again a fair bit and was on the passable side of ok. King tagged Ablett and was ok...could have hurt him more with a little more finesse and experience. Newman was Newman...got well beaten by his direct opponent, coughed the ball up stylishly numerous times...had maybe 20-23 possessions but did bugger all with them...looked good if you pay zero attention and walk into each game already disconnected from reality, convinced he's a top player.

LOL. BRING RAY HALL in then, right?:thumbsu:

Chris Newman had one bad game, and it was against a player who is in red hot form, the Cats have not lost since he came back in the side.

Newman is still a gun, and Ray Hall is not even worthy of being called a player, he is shit and will always be shit.

Newman's had around 15 goals kicked on him directly in three weeks (plus other goals which have been directly his fault) and his record of getting beaten virtually every time he plays on a good small forward is well known (again, I'll offer to list the games for you). If it was Hall you'd be whingeing like a scalded cat and calling for his head.

Davis is averaging 1.8 goals a game this year - he kicked 4 on Newman.

Johnson is averaging 2.3 goals a game this year - he kicked 5 on Newman.

You say Johnson's in "red hot form" - in reality he's kicked 6 goals in the 4 weeks prior to the 5 goals he kicked on Newman. Davis had 5 goals over the 4 games prior to playing on Newman. They both kicked as much as they had in a month in one game on Newman.

Shall we get into the Pt Adelaide game? :p

Neither Newman or Hall are champion players, just average battlers with good attitudes who compete hard and do their best. When they have to play injured, or get isolated in defence on a very good opponent with no support and the ball coming down too often, too well delivered, they tend to get beaten. Most defenders do.

It's really as simple as that.

You can't on one hand crucify a bloke like Hall for getting beaten occasionally by the best in the business, yet give Newman dozens of passes for the same thing. Just like you can't crucify Hall for turning the ball over and looking goofy, yet give Newman dozens of passes for turning the ball over - because he did it stylishly.

Same end result.
