2023. The A League has agreed to create a relegation, promotion league for the next season. However, it was understood that a lack of infrastructure and talent across many smaller clubs would be the ultimate barrier to the over all success of the league.

So the powers that be dedicated the year 2023 "Year 1."
Year 1 would see the ten existing teams joined by ten new, handpicked and FA backed clubs, created a twenty team league. This unique year would see the top ten clubs remain in the A-League, and the bottom ten forming the new B-League in 2024.

Adelaide City was the first merged entity in to take part in year 1. Formed from a pair of Italian power house clubs in Adelaide, Campbelltown City and Adelaide City, the Rosso e Nero shared Adelaide United's Hindmarsh Stadium, but train out of the North Eastern suburb of Campbelltown ac full.png

Sensing the potential for the sport not only across the North Island, but across the Pacific region, the FA chose and then supported Auckland City to become a top flight team. auckland fc.png

The Strikers fell into a category of NPL teams that were simply 'Too Good to Ignore.' They joined the Roar playing out of Suncorp stadium, and brought Football to Brisbane each weekend. bs full.png

The Gold Coast was always a problem for Australian Sports. So the FA were never interested in returning to the region with serious backing. And that's when Red Bull, with their marketing and youth development acrimony stepped into the breach. gcrb full.png

hahahahaha f**k - literally the next team I'm posting in my A-League folio.

the Northern Suburbs region of Joondalup housed three sides in Perth's NPLWA. ECU Joondalup, Joondalup City and Joondalup United.

These three clubs jumped at the opportunity to provide the West with their second team, forming the next and only three part merger for Year 1, Joondalup FC. jfc.png

Melbourne City were the next merger. After losing faith in their over seas franchise model and focussing on their Premier League side Manchester City pulled a large portion of their ownership stakes out of Melbourne. Sensing their long overdue opportunity to enter the big league was South Melbourne Hellas, who bought out the remaining controlling stake melb city full.png and merged the two entities, enjoying the financial support of the City Group and their own loyal, home grown support.
