Hey,

I'm a newbie poster in the US. I'm a stat geek and I was wondering if someone could explain the stats in Footy to me. I follow the game, but I would like to know more about the stats. Also, in lurking I come across a lot of abbreviations. I recognize the ones for positions (FF, FB, CHB, CHF, etc.) but could use help with some others, like what is KPP?

Thanks

KPP = Key Position Player

i.e. the spine - Full Back, Centre Half Back, Centre Half Forward and Full forward

for player stats such K HB P HO T M FF FA G B

K - Kicks

HB - Hand ball

P - total possesions (Kicks + Hand balls)

HO - Hit outs - mostly just the hitouts by the ruckmen during bounces and throw ins

M - Marks

T - Tackles

FF - Free kicks recieved

FA - Free kicks given away

G - Goals kicked

B - Behinds kicked

Wikipedia does a good job of explaning the game

Thanks,

I understand the game pretty well. Actually I should say "I follow it when I watch it". To say "I understand it" would be an insult to those who have watched it their whole lives, much like if an Aussie said "I understand baseball (or American football)" when they had only seen a game on TV. I watch it a much as possible, which here in the US is not easy. I understand the rules and have read a lot about the history so the wikipedia had mostly info I already knew/had come across. I just couldn't find what the abreviations for stats were. Much help, thanks again
