So recently during nights out on the town I have noticed that couples out and about are looking increasingly mis-matched. Last weekend in the city, I see all of these stunning women dressed up to the nines and their blokes were walking along in the old jeans and T-Shirt combo. Same thing in summer, the girl is all done up and the dude is sporting shorts and thongs (unless clubbing of course).

Are the women over-dressing to impress other women or do guys just not give a toss what they wear?

Women like to dress up, for whatever reason appropriate to that girl.

Generally guys don't like dressing up so will avoid it if possible. In Perth, my excuse is that it's too ****ing hot in summer to even wear jeans and tee most of the time...

(edit, except for tonight, its heckin'g cold outside)

I bet if you asked the guys you'd find that the jeans and T shirt are from wanky designer store and cost loads of dollars.

A lot of men confuse dollar value of clothes with style. The two are not concurrent. Or they just don't care.

They might have allowed their women to dress them, too. Women who wear fancy clothes do seem to go for guys in jeans and Ts.

Guys don't really have much in terms of options. I'll wear a button up dress shirt when I go out but I still wear jeans. Although I prefer dark - can't stand the acid wash / distressed look.

My girlfriend dresses up, majorly. Goes the whole short dress and everything. She is only small too, under 5 foot, so the dresses are bloody tiny. Has heels, make up, everything. Buys clothes every time she gets paid, so her cupboard is bursting.

I own very few clothes, as I really couldn't care less. So I wear my jeans, with holes in the pockets and rips at the bottom, and a t-shirt, and in winter, a hoodie.

Oh, come on. The allure of a four hundred dollar shirt, skinny jeans and RM Williams boots just cannot be denied. Glams will be swooned:thumbsu:

Flouro Ed Hardy shirt 4 sizes to small, Diesel jeans (pre-ripped for your convenience), snake skin slip on shoes. Add in a bleached blonde fauxhawk and some giant flouro sunnies and you're about ready to get out on the town.

I can't stand being out and dressed not the best, since most blokes are just wearing shit, its not hard to stand out from the crowd and look good.

I nearly always get complimented by a woman for what I'm wearing when I'm out, takes 10 minutes and some investment

The amount of blokes that seem to think "dressing up" equals a cheap buttoned shirt from Ed Harry, ill-fitting jeans and shoes like the ones below is ridiculous:

Just as bad are the other blokes who trade the buttoned shirt for a Billabong t-shirt (or something similar), who look like they're just going down the shops for the day. You actually feel sorry for both types, because of how cheap and altogether lame they look :o

I used to go the buttoned shirt/leather shoes look frequently when I was in my late teens, but it made me feel uncomfortable and overdressed more often than not. Sometimes I go with buttoned shirt/tie/nice knit/jeans/Beatle boots type of thing (like this), but most often I just stick with a nice basic jacket, knit or hoodie, an interesting t-shirt (usually something band or movie related), jeans that fit (not skinny jeans, but not baggy) and some retro hi-tops or sneakers - kind of like this, this or this, without the baggyness. I generally manage strike a balance between standing out and looking unique (I'm 6'5", so it's hard to remain inconspicuous, even if I wanted to), while being stylish and dressing appopriately for my age and the venues I frequent (more indie rock type of places than your mainstream dance clubs).

Somehow I think guys who wear buttoned shirts, jeans and casual shoes would probably take it as a compliment to know that a hipster thinks they look lame.

As much as a hipster would take it as a compliment to know that anyone that is mainstream thinks they look like a *******.

In short - everyone is shit.

Damon - what kinda shoes does Kanye have on in that third pic?

Yea true, I probably look just as stupid to them as they do to me. That being said, I'm probably considered a postive dag by some of the true high-brow indie w***ers that get around, so it goes all ways.

I think they're part of the Louis Vuitton range that he designed.
