As pointed out on the Gate forum (Cheers Legoman) the Crows game against the Lions on the 25th of August clashes with the Adelaide United Game vs. Queensland Roar - which is being played in Brisbane.

Now, why cant the FFA and AFL sit down and try to get these events together on the same weekend in the same city - if Both Adelaide Crows and Adelaide United were playing in Brisbane on that weekend, id be there quicker than Flash Gordon.

Surely theyd both be interested in having more travelling fans, even if it means feeding off each other.

Just seems that

The AFL would win - more away fans
The FFA would win - More away Fans
The Supporters would win - Could make 2 trips for the price of one (theoretically).

Even before i became a fan of the roundball game, if there was an Adelaide Team playing on the same weekend i was travelling - id be there. Basketball, Soccer, Rugby - Id be there (maybe not netball though).

Im sure some of our knitting needle clan that travel would make the shift and this might encourage them to get off their seats more. Same as if it is a highly skilled game, we might recruit some of the soccer fans for an occasional peep down at AAMI.

Thoughts?

My situation is completely different so I couldn't be planned for as you're suggesting, but I reckon that's a top idea and one that rival codes should consider. I don't see a negative for anyone involved...except for a little extra work and dialogue...

From a personal perspective, I would definitely be swayed to make the trip if two teams that I followed closely were playing outside of Melbourne on the same weekend.

It would be the last 2 weekends of AFL season so the FFA would need to conform really, as the last games before finals is too hot to tamper with already.

Still, the FFA could grab the Draw for the last couple of Weeks and try to co-incide

Sydney playing In melbourne in Round 22 (Hell, get the Storm playing at home to a Sydney based team aswell)

Brisbane playing In Adelaide

Fremantle Playing in Adelaide.

Atleast try and give the Victory 2 home games to start the season against some visiting AFL teams, instead of Wellington. Poor planning tbh,

Absolutely great post. Hope it could be a reality one day. Cheers hon.

And while on the slightly off topic subject, i do enjoy the Team Melbourne Concept brought in over there.

Id love to see it happen over here, but i think the crows have dug themselves right into AAMI so it would be the power with the rest of them, which wouldnt work - seeing as all the other teams wear Red, Blue and Gold.

Its a good idea overall.

Put to practice, i cant see it entering my thought processes though. Cant say i particularly care about the soccer. Wouldnt really enter plans if i was thinking about a footy trip to see the Crows.
See thats what i like about the concept - You would have those who plan to go that weekend intentionally and then those who would be there to support one team but may end up goign to both games because there are a whole pile of South Aussies in the state, many of who are going to the game.

Id been thinking a similar idea for a while, by reducing the AFL competition to 2 teams from each state - possibly with a relegation system for VFL teams - and then getting some interaction between "major" sporting codes so that Fans could essentially travel "Smarter rather than Harder" if that makes sense.

At the same time, im not sure that the potential benefits for the AFL would be anywhere near significant enough for them to consider doing anything at all. Really, it would be the other lesser supported codes piggybacking off them as far as i can see.
