It is obvious that we're not where Mick thinks we are on his so called premiership clock, but where are we exactly?

Are we at around 7 o'clock and close enough to make a few more changes and get right up there?

Or are we still way back?

I'm looking more towards the second option. Sadly, the loss of Judd, Carrazzo and Scotland will really hurt us as I doubt these 3 will still be around in 2 years time. Plus we just lack depth and still have gaping holes on our list that need addressing.

Mick hadn't reset his region settings to GMT +10...

All seriousness, we aren't anywhere near it so any talk of premiership clocks is silly. Really not being overly negative but lets just get some shit right on the field before we worry about this.

I think Mick's watch might be broken cause if he thinks we are passing through 11pm he is kidding himself!

The way I see it we gotta play the kids and get them up to speed while Jamo, Murph, Daisy ect are in their prime.

Get games into Buckley, Menzel, Lucas, Watson, Cripps and Graham this year and pick up a key forward in off season!

It's one or two pieces away. It's a dream season with injury away, a dream pre season away. You need a lot to go right outside of just talent to win enough games to even contend for a flag let alone win one.

Carrazzo, Judd and Scotland should call it a day in my opinion.

Move on the ageing guys struggling to play good footy under Mick, such as:

McLean and Waite - they are struggling to play decent footy and don't seem to be on the same page as MM.

We don't need a full rebuild, Mick has said it before, he never rebuilds, he simply builds the list up year to year, he took Collingwood from 15th to 2nd. His flag year with Collingwood he made 12 list changes.

In my opinion, he got that Collingwood list perfect because he got his core group of players young. He got guys like Swan, Thomas, Shaw, Maxwell and the rest all at ages 18, and the whole bloody team to absolutely bleed for him.

He needs to work fast to do the same with our leaders in Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuz, Hendo, Jamo, Simpson, Walker who seem to almost be there.

Bring in Cripps, Graham, Menzel, Buckley for that next tier of players, and if Mick can do with them what he did with his young Collingwood guys then... Anything could happen.

The GC and GWS fear is overrated I think. Still 3-4 years off and flags are so ****ing hard to win these days. It's harder than throwing a bunch of top draft picks together and having a linear line in ladder position all the way to the top.

2016 is our best bet.

we need to throw everything at one of the GWS forwards. Waite is great but will be injured or suspended soon enough.

But its more than just personelle with this group, theres something wrong between the ears. The slow starts/finishes and the horrible kicking is mental and I have no idea how Mick would fix that.

The rebuild has begun, prepare for another big effort come trade week and another run of delistings. Not sure if we will be going too invasive and trading players for draft picks yet but it begun at the end of last season and it's continuing to go.

We'd have to get very lucky during trade week to be a flag threat any time soon. Lacking a key position player or two and lacking some top level midfielders and midfield depth.

My issue is I don't think the club are being realistic about where we are at. We all readily admit we aren't top 8 certainties, we know the media don't think we're any good. But the club (apparently) thinks we are.

For me I just want the club to acknowledge what we already know. Then, we can finally start moving forward. At the moment I think we are just hovering, and most likely will go backwards this year. But that wouldn't bother me if I knew we were all on the same page.

We are in desperate need of a re-evaluation and implementation of a new strategy. Once this happens we can start moving forward in the right direction.

I don't think we're at the stage of St Kilda or Melbourne like trouble. But it could get that way if we don't acknowledge that a number of regular players aren't going to get us to a flag & probably won't be around when we next challenge.

When we lose, of course it sucks but what is the most upsetting is knowing it's just another indication of how far apart the club's perception & reality are.

Agree. Club needs to acknowledge that there are too many holes & move backwards to go forwards.

Hmm we just delisted a whole heap. Who's next in line?

Might get towelled for this but if the following can't be traded they will be gone:
Lucas, Bootsma, Cachia (enough midfield depth for now), dare I say it - Temay (is he showing anything?).

I think guys like Rowe and Casboult are safe as we sort of lack KPP's.

Is it really obvious? As intriguing a response that was from Mick, he must know something we don't.

If a premiership is 12am. We are at 1am.
Honestly couldnt be further from it.
1am is a serious premiership challenge, it's just you're not a favourite, having gone past your best.. 3-5am is the miserable time.

nothing good ever happens between 3 and 5am...unless you get laid...and we're too drunk and ugly for that.

I'm glad Gibbs had the balls to say to the club "hang on guys, we're not that shit hot - can you explain to me why I should sign away the rest of my career to you guys? We haven't achieved anything, give me a plan, think it out, write it down and give it to me so I can read it and contribute".

Gives the club a decent excuse to think about our direction and take a look at ourselves, does it not?

It will be easier come seasons end but I can think of a few likely ones already for both trade outs and delisting.

We have some kids who are worth playing so there could be a few senior players go. We have a few youngsters who aren't going to make it and yes some of those names are possibilities.

Why are people digging the boots into Waite? Was one of the few who looked like he gave a hoot when he went back and actually stuck tackles. He missed a few shots, so did half our team. You'd think he played a McLean level game or something.

It's sad to say, but I think I came to the realisation sometime last season that 2011 (or perhaps round 3 of 2012) was our most recent peak. Besides Melbourne/GWS, when was the last time we spanked a team? When was the last time you saw us stick it to our opponents for four quarters? I haven't seen it under Mick, and it's probably going to be a long, drawn out 'process' before we do. A couple of years back, we could curb stomp the likes of Sydney, Essendon, Richmond, etc. And now, we've been overtaken by Port. To be fair, we'd smash Essendon by 100 points one week, and then lose to the Suns the next. I'm not sure what I'd rather take, to be honest. Would you rather be able to beat teams by 10-15 goals multiple times a season, with high variance, or would you rather be frustrated in both your wins and losses (we were on track to win by 60, but faded in red time / we were about to get across the line, but our goal kicking let us down)? I've said it before, but it feels like a square peg in a round hole with Mick and the boys. This kicking around the boundary thing isn't our style. We don't have the tall timber or the required footskills for it.

Hinkley took over Port around the same time as Mick did us, and it makes me scratch my head why they look like they're on the way up, while we seem to keep going backwards. On paper, we've improved our squad year after year. Is it because their side was younger and more willing to accept a different gameplan?

I didn't expect us to be premiers this season. I didn't expect us to be top 4. I did expect us to try and improve on our deficiencies and have a red hot go against our rivals, and with the composure and polish (or lack thereof) displayed so far, it's hard not to feel disappointed.

I think we're two established talls, and 3-4 established midfielders away, to be honest. If we had another tall, both ends would be a bit more settled, and would keep us from falling further behind. With the midfield, we have players with dash, players with footskills, players with inside grunt, but too few who have more than one of these traits. It means you have to carry two players instead one. It means one who is multi-dimensional can be tagged out of a game and have a severe effect on the midfield. If quality depth was there, somebody would be there to pick up the slack.

I agree. However, when you're a player who has never consistently reached their potential but have the capability of being the difference, and put in a performance like he did tonight, it sort of makes him look foolish.

Has he factored in daylight saving ending? That will actually bring us back to 10pm
