I understand this has probably been done quite a few times this season, and mods please move it if it has.....

My Pies AA locks for this year are; Scott Pendlebury, Travis Cloke, Ben Reid and Neon Leon. Unlucky; Ball, Swan and Thomas.

Anyone see it differently, and if so, how?

Re: AA Locks

Thomas I reckon is a lock for one of the flanks.

The AA team is usually structured with the #4 and #5 midfielder in the competition lining up on the wings while the #1 true wingman usually slots into a spot on the flank.

This was the side I posted on the AFL board:

B: Scarlett - McPharlin - Davis

HB: Fisher - Reid - Scotland

C: Mitchell - Murphy - Ablett

HF: Thomas - Cloke - Fyfe

F: Petrie - Franklin - S. Johnson

RR: Cox - Pendlebury - Judd

INT: Goldstein - Dal Santo - Swan - Enright

So the bold Pies are the ones who I think are locks at this stage. Swan is the only other Pie I have in my side at the moment but he could drop out if he has a quiet few weeks.

I'd think we would have Tarrant, Ball, and perhaps H. Shaw in the squad of 40 as well.

Re: AA Locks

Davis and Cloke are certainties.

You'd think they'd pick 2 or 3 out of Pendlebury, Thomas, Swan or Ball

Re: AA Locks

I have a terrible feeling Ben Reid will miss out, and either Bock or Harry Taylor will be in front of him, just based on reputation.

Only now are the average radio and TV commentators starting to give Reid the credit we were giving him 12 months ago, so I doubt the AA selectors will have him in their final 22.

Davis is a lock for back pocket.

Thomas is a lock for wing/bench.

Swan is a lock for anywhere in the side.

Cloke is the Centre Half Forward, or they might as well scrap the concept.;)

Pendles should make it, but the midfield will be jammed with talent like always, so it may be tight.

I want to see the breakdown of Pies vs Cats, it's quite obvious one of these two sides will win the flag now, so to see who the AA selectors think have the most stars will be interesting, if not slightly irrelevant in real terms.:)

Re: AA Locks

Imo, Pendles, Cloke, Swan and Thomas should and will make the team. Reid should but may miss out, as selectors may favour a 'proven' player, for want of a better term. Davis is a 50/50 but has hit form at the right time of year and will probably make it as back pocket is probably one of the less competitive spots in the side.

Re: AA Locks

Anything can happen. Remember the year Lockyer missed out. The selection process is a joke.

Those Pies I consider locks:
Thomas, Pendlebury, Davis

Chances:
Reid, Cloke, Tarrant, Shaw, Toovey, Ball, Swan

My AA team for 2011:
F: Steve Johnson Lance Franklin Mark LeCras
HF: Stewart Crameri Travis Cloke Nat Fyfe
CEN: Dale Thomas Scott Pendlebury Marc Murphy
HB: Brett Deledio Ben Reid Bryce Gibbs
B: Leon Davis Michael Jamison Alan Toovey
FOLL: Dean Cox Chris Judd Gary Ablett
BENCH: Andrew Walker Matt Suckling Todd Goldstein Sam Mitchell

AA team 2:
F: Cyril Rioli Jack Riewoldt Paul Chapman
HF: Brent Harvey Josh Kennedy Tom Rockliff
CEN: Brendan Goddard Joel Selwood Liam Shiels
HB: Heath Scotland Sam Fisher Jed Adcock
B: Corey Enright Chris Tarrant Heath Shaw
FOLL: Aaron Sandilands Luke Ball Dane Swan
BENCH: Graham Johncock Matthew Pavlich Adam Goodes Jobe Watson

reid cloke pendlebury thomas davis are all starting 18 certainties. swan is making a late run. tarrant and ball should be under strong consideration but probably aren't. i don't care what people say about too many pies players in the team, it is only natural that the competition benchmark is heavily represented in the year's best team. how many did geel have in in 08, wasn't it 8 or 9?

I'm more confident now with the continued good form of Reid & Neon.

Thomas - lock
Pendlebury - lock
Swan
Reid
Davis - lock
Cloke - lock

Heath Shaw would have been but Neon gets his spot.

Ben Reid has to be a lock, an absolutely certainty, Bock has missed a couple of games and I think Reid has been more impressive regardless, Neon is clearly a lock and as well as Pendlebury and maybe Swan, Thomas should make the squad.

Couldn't agree more. :thumbsu:

Hope you folks are right about Ben Reid...he'd be very deserving, but Harry Taylor and maybe Bock, will be stiff opposition.

Harry T for mine, with Geelong's favourable history in this award.

Love to be most wrong of course! :)

PS I think Leon would have cemented his spot on Friday night.

Pendles and Daisy looking certs aswell as Leon.

Cloke, Reid, Taz, Swanny, Luke Ball all a chance.

Still a way to go, two further BOGs from the chances would likely tie up a spot.

I'm hoping you will be wrong too! I just had to have a look at the stats, he's 3rd overall for marks in the comp only to Cloke and Gibbs. How many of these are uncontested from his ability to pick off the ball as it comes into the defensive 50? I don't know how to search for uncontested marks but, I'd say.. many!!

Reid leads the competition with taking marks from opposition kicks. I don't know what the numbers are but I think I heard he has a bit of a lead on the next best, which is Taylor.

Is this the same Harry Taylor who got ripped a new one by Cloke in the Prelim last year:o
every year turkeys like taylor get in bolton from sydney d morris even n maxwell ffs , this year will be no different anyway davis i thought from around 7 weeks ago was a lock reid should get in but wont tarrant should get in but wont. swan should get in but wont. thomas will, pendle will, and cloke will. really all seven have no pier this year clearly the best in their position. but, as always you will see scarlett taylor, enright, selwood, jonhson, maybe chapman and kelly. and from other teams mcfarlin, gibson, garlett, and a few others who might not get a sniff at the pies. sometimes i feel this time of year the all ozzie commitee log on to bigfooty and lap up a whole heap of bullshit. and around draft time recuiters log on and start taking names. otherwise how does the melbourne bloke justify watts at no 1.. :):thumbsu:

Swan is revving up again....he may well end the H&A season with more than 650 disposals and perhaps more than 30 goals....staggering numbers yet most seem to think his quiet patch in the middle will cost him for some reason

Id have Swan in ahead of guys like Boyd, Dal and even Ablett

Locks: Pendlebury, Cloke, Davis, Thomas
Near Certainties: Reid, Swan
Outside Chances: Ball, Taz

The way Swan is tracking he should easily make it, his season has been great. Whilst Reid has some stiff opposition, look at Frawley last year, goes to show reputation isn't everything. Plus Reid leads the comp. in marks from opposition kicks (pretty sure) and his performances in big games (Hawks, Saints) will help his cause.

If the 4 locks I've mentioned don't make it then there are serious issues in the system
