AAMI Stadium

During the finals last year, there was a report in the advertiser that implied that the SANFL were getting a feasibility study done and should be completed by mid December 2005. This report was going to be completed by a group of structural engineers and modern stadium engineers to propose a plan to allow AAMI stadium to meet the growing demands as well as to keep pace with the other sporting stadiums in Australia.

Did anyone else read this article in the Advertiser and if so has anyone heard what was in this report? Will the finding or plans be released to the South Australian sporting public?

Nah! Usually skip the confidential pages. :p

I havent heard anything about it, I just wish that the SANFL would realise that the capacity of the ground needs to be increased. It should be somewhere between 65,000-70,000. It would encourage so many more people to go especially if the home games end up being on fox it will encourage more and more people to go.

If money was no object, i'd knock the bloody thing down and start again.

Along with Subiaco, it is a seriously out-of-date design if compared to other stadiums around Australia and the world.

The seats can be MILES from the game, and the facilities out the back are worse than poor.

Forgetting the disasterous surface, the facilities at Docklands as an example are 500% better and the furthest away seats are miles closer then the average view at footy park.

But I think at Docklands that the fence is too close to the action for the players sake (same at the scg). The main reason that Docklands can have closer views to the game is that the seats are a lot closer together than those at footy park. I am only 5' 2 and I feel cramped at Docklands, so I pity those people taller than me. Plus that first tier can be taken away as it is like a portable stand, walking down those steps and you can feel it move under you is a little disturbing, even more so when the opposition fans start stomping their feet (good noise, but makes all the seats shake). That worries me a little bit. But I agree that you can be closer to the action.
I have no problems with the facilities at footy park. We have back row seats in the outer and can see quite well. Have no problems with the toliets and vary rarely buy food, much prefer the bbq before the games, thanks. :D Of course Docklands seems much more updated in terms of facilities, it was built when?

If you want to be miles from the game, then go to the MCG and sit in the top stands. I have also been to Giants Stadium and we had seats on the top tier and the players looked like ants, but there are screens to see closer to the action and you could really see the patterns being generated. I know slightly different game, but the atmosphere was great and that to me is what really makes a stadium.
