Just finished watching the match and i think saints fans can be rapt to grab this bloke ...

Playing in a quality side will only help him ...

He has great skills, vision and is quite composed with the footy ... i think he is a real bonus for the saints.

Anyone else impressed with his game tonight? IMO it was the best game i've seen of his.

I must agree here. I gave him a big serve when I found out we got him and wasnt really excited, but he has added some muscle and is showing signs he can play and be effective. I will eat my words, with some steak sauce. ;)

GO AARON!!! I am now on the Aaron Fiora bandwagon, care to jump on, it'll be a helluva ride!!!!! :D

It's bloody February. He might be playing well now but you won't know which Aaron Fiora you guys really got until at least a month or so into the season.

I have seen this all before and am not going to fall for it yet again. I will reserve judgement until later.

He had a good game. He is playing for his football career with a team with a talented list of midfielders, on paper. He could never maintain the intensity at the Tigers, will be a good challenge for him to see if he can now.

One thing with Fiora, he looks good when he is attacking but he is the kind of player you do not have any memorable moments of him doing a whole lot in defensive efforts.

looks to have bulked up a fair bit, is cool under pressure ,and has good skills. may not have been consistent at the tiges, but its hard when you are in and out every other week in a team under costant pressure.

He is playing in a team with talented midfielders but at this very early stage is one of the very few to have shown anything. Grant Thomas has said since day one that they'll be working hard on getting him to improve his second efforts. Early days but it's a good start.

For that reason you'd have to question why he was played as a defender for most of his career at Richmond. He'll definitely play on the wing and forward of the centre for us. He was not only traded for Heath Black but he'll play a very similar role to him.

I'm glad there's posts of mine that date back to the time of the trade that claim he'd be a good pickup for the Saints, they're not going to miss Black at all.
Not worth giving Richmond crap about it as it looks like it will be a win-win-win situation for all 3 clubs involved. Simmonds will do more for us than Fiora was ever going to, I guess only Freo can hope that Black was worth the pickup.
There are understandably some Tiger supporters bitter about the lack of return that we got from him, something Fiora has admitted, but at the end of the day it wasn't his choice to leave. He'll likely be the first Tiger player to have a premiership medallion around his neck in quite some time.

I wish him luck, I know Frawley tried to work on his defensive side of his game by playing him in defense. He is a good player, talented. Perhaps just the shake-up from changing club is all he needed to put more of an effort into his football. I am happy for him.

He was played in defense because in the middle when he was not playing well he wouldn't be within shouting distance of his opponent, if the opposition put a classy ball winner on him and they get a lot of the ball then it can really hurt you in a close contest.

I am not sure who he was playing on but i never saw a bulldog player lay a tackle on him and didn't see him lay a tackle on anyone else so not quite sure what is going on there. Hard to really judge someone when nobody has been on him for 2 games. I think Hodge was his opponent last week and they were not within 50m of eachother for most of the game.

I'd like to see him play a closer man-on-man role and still get a bit of the ball, it may not be as flashy but it wont hurt as much on the rebound.

Sounds to me like Aaron Fiora suffers from Justin Murphy syndrome.... plays 1 decent season at a new club then turns to crap

Good pickup Infamy, you seem more upbeat about his prospects than most Saints fans were when he arrived.

After the way Richmond supporters went on about Fiora (and to be fair our supporters did the same when Trent Knobel left), you have to expect that there will be a lot of interest on bigfooty. Every bad game that either of them play will be celebrated by the opposition supporters.

Sure it's petty but one look at the main boards would tell you that people aren't here for serious football discussion. ;)

I agree - it does seem to be a win - win situation for the Saints and Tiges.
Freo however, traded a big man for a small man, Black has to do an enormous job to make up for the loss of Simmonds. Freo did trade well though to repair their struggling midfield and may have suddenly attained one of the best midfields in the AFL.

I said at the time the Saints had done well and has definately looked the goods so far. Is only 2 games of the Wizard Cup so far so I wouldn't get too carried away but so far so good.

He looks to have bulked up more this pre-season than any other season and I'm sure that's with the intent to turn him into a more physical kind of player.

I do agree with you, it's hard to judge someone that hasn't really been responsible for an opponent. However if he continues to win as much of the ball as he has been and uses it just as effectively it will be up to opposition coaches to make him more accountable.

I watch a lot of Tiger games because i got to a fair few games with a Tiger supporter so have seen him play a fair bit, he definitely has the talent just never utilised it at Richmond.

Having said that, we have drafted failures of other clubs and turned them into increadible perfomers, like Bell, so anything is possible. Good luck to him, would be a shame if he faded out of football at his age and with his talent without accomplishing anything.

Looks good

funny that he looked good at the Port Magpies - went to a ********hole at richmond and struggled, now at a good side and looking good again. Says a bit about the player tho. Champions stand out even in ******** sides - ie Riccuito

hes going to be a very good player for the saints. my bro who is a st kilda supporter was rapt to get him. he may just be ready to unleash the pace, delivery and vision that richmond drafted him for in the first place.

sometimes i think it comes down to one thing with some players, its hard to soar like and eagle when your surrounded by turkeys. in fiora's case, that just may be fact.

thats a harsh call on a bloke who was drafted young into a poor environment. riccutio slotted into a very good crows side when he first entered the league. alas, sometimes the weight of expectation hurts a young footballer, and at clubs like richmond, even moreso.

He might make a decent wingman. He's got pace and likes to take his opponent on. Could be a touch soft.

He progressed slowly in his first few years at Richmond, then had two poor seasons. I'm not surprised we got rid of him and given that we had enough wingmen and few talls, I am happy with the way it panned out for Richmond.

He may do well at St Kilda but i'd be surprised if he can play any position but the wing.

Purely on the basis of 2 pre-season games I'm happy with him as a replacement for heath black. Since he came to us there have been accusations of softness & an inablilty to win a hard ball but I've seen enough so far to think that he can do an adequate job in these areas. Frankly, if he doesn't I'd be surprised if he's around for too long.
