If GC and Adelaide were allowed to use the mini draft players in the pre-season comp is there anything stopping us using some of the academy players the same way in the future seeing as they're already playing senior footy with the reserves?

I'd imagine the difference would be that O'Meara and Crouch were actually on their teams senior list. Academy players are not, until they are drafted.

Very much doubt the AFL would allow non AFL listed players to play in its comp. Raises all sorts of issues, insurance cover not being the least of them.

More importantly, testing day today for 17 and 18 year olds in Beisbane being considered for the under 18 Lion Academy preseason training squad ( presumably will be named in next couple,of weeks), the first stage of the selection process for next years state 18's team. More importantly the first group available to the Lions via the academy zone selection process.

Not sure as yet, but know a boy who went today so will try to find out. I'm sure initial squad will end up including boys who played in state team as underagers this year, some other 17 yo who were in mix (who will be the harder group to pick) and all the boys who played in state 16's this year. Squad should be named in couple of weeks, as will probably start training in early Nov (as per this year)

If my understanding is correct, this is the inaugural list of players eligible to be drafted under the bidding system.

Without checking, I think only some of these are. Liam Dawson and Matt Hammelmann, for example, are for the 2014 draft. The above I think is a list of the top 17 + 18yos for 2013.

Do you know if players from outside this list can be eligible to be bidded on this year, BigCat?
 
That's more a question for the likes of footymaad I'm afraid.

I just like to fantasize about picking up Tickner who'll be our star CHB for 10 years, as well as others. :p

Took a year off apparently. Even though he isn't named in the squad now still a chance he will be in the academy.

The teenager already spent two years at the academy before taking a break in 2012 while he completed Year 12 in Ipswich.
Now with his schooling almost behind him, Uebergang plans to have a real crack at becoming an AFL footballer.

We can only pick up players who are eligible to be drafted in the 2013 draft. Not all in that list fit into that category. I think that is what BigCat was getting at (?).

Uebergang is one who fell off the radar for a while there. He was really impressive as a 16 year old, I was a big fan - Haven't seen him play since then though.
 
Yeah TLL that was what I meant. The club's just lumped them together on one list, and short of checking their DOB individually, can't really say who's eligible for 2013 draft and who's not.
 
Great to see a couple of Darling Downs boys (both from Dalby) get in. Lachie Dignan is playing with Morningside next season I think, can seriously play, Luke Hodge type. Last I heard Tye Hughes was planning on having a run with Sandgate, big boy, heaps of upside with him. Hope they both do well. Actually hope they ALL do well.

It is encouraging to get some likely types from RL heartland. Hopefully it'll encourage even more to get into the game out there.

The list is in two alphabetical parts. The first part is all 2014 draft and the second (longer) half is 2013 draft. Saves checking DOB
