Next week may be the game we get the reality check some would say we need.
I get what you mean, but how many reality checks do we need?

Everybody's angry, but this is a really shit post. You're really hoping we get done next week?
I don't think that anybody wants us to get done next week; but if we play in the same manner that we did yesterday, it's what will happen.

A lot of supporters believe that we're incapable of becoming a serious threat for a premiership, as things stand. We want the club to win premierships, and be feared by other clubs. Some things have to change, but given how complacent everyone appears to be, we ask what will need to happen to shake the club up and put us back on track.

Brilliant post tazaa and heart felt too.

Ive seen some shit sides run onto the paddock in 38 years of supporting the club i love, but never have i seen a more heartless outfit than this one. To be hunted by a pack of boys like tonight was utterly embarrassing and some serious questions need to be asked over the remainder of the season. Walshy has got some work ahead of him alright, but has he got the balls to make the big decisions?
I liked it better when we had a side with stuff all ability but had a red hot dip every week, other clubs respected us for this and knew they would at least be in for a tough contest, those days are gone now.

Boys club? Oh please!

Our players and coaches actually enjoy being at the club because it's a great environment. That must be a terrible thing. We need to get to the point where every young player can't wait to get out of the joint, that will certainly be the recipe for a successful team.

So there's not several degrees of variation between a complacent environment <<<vs>>> a demoralised environment?

You just do this to be contrary.

With respect to the OP I agree with most but take difference at the resourcing comment.

Port's financial mangement improved but they didn't change between 2012-3 because there was suddenly 10 mill more in the bank. Even if there was you wouldn't have got such a kick so quick.

We lost to the lions who have f'all cash and beat Freo and West Coast who have friggin membership waiting lists.

I'm not saying more money wouldn't help but our issues appear more related to ingrained cultural issues set in place by the coach over several seasons.

i'd be happy to tear that brick building down and bring back the convertibles, okay, nobody would want to play for us, but at least you'd know that those that did would bleed blue and white. all soft absolutely no exceptions, none

I don't think anyone wants the team to lose, it's more the Jekyll and Hyde thing we have happening is papering over the cracks that exist at the club, and people want a real wake-up call for real action to be taken.

You sit back and look at our record, and it doesn't look that bad this far in to the season. But within that, and within matches, anyone can see that something is fundamentally wrong with the way our guys are going about it. And it needs to change. Or else we'll be sitting here in 4 years time, still wondering why we beat Sydney and then lose to GWS, or whatever. We are nowhere near our potential.

It's not willing them to lose. It's more about, if the inevitable is going to happen and we don't turn up, can we have it monumentally served up to the club so that finally, they have to do something about it.

exactly, the Port comparison is a very good one in question, just a couple of years ago they were struggling and languishing below us.

Now they have Primetime adds on Adelaide TV reinforcing their Pledge with Hinkley stating "We'll never give up." with the whole team standing firm behind him." and at the moment they can pull it off with some integrity.

If we did so the message would come across as though it was being sold by a political party given there would be absolutely no substance to back it up at Arden St at the moment.

massive danger of becoming a bunch of primadonnas heading the direction of carlton me thinks.

We will probably beat Hawthorn.
I doubt it, unless they become Pakistan and money start's changing hands..
I would still be very surprised but it's the way it works at this club.
I would've been annoyed had've we won last night, after what happened in the second quarter, and in defence of Scott, he said this himself.

Hell you've beaten all the other top 4 sides this season, and two of them away.
Which tells you it's a mindset issue. It's not an issue of ability, you'll never convince me of that, but we seem to have a combination mindset of fragile minds coupled with a few heroes out there.

I agree. That's what it was like in the 90's. I've never bought into the Boys Club shit. It'd be great if it was.

Great OP tazaa.

I have been one that has remained positive over the past few seasons, but after the lack of effort I witnessed last night my positivity has waned significantly. It was a lazy performance by all involved, players and coaches. Our club needs to realize what their supporters and members want from them.

We don't expect top 4 finishes every year.

We don't expect premierships every few years.

We don't expect to win every game.

What we do expect, and what we crave, is a team that will put in the required effort each week. A team that will come out onto the ground each week and give 100% for 2 hours. Just like Arch, Stevo, Shimma and so many others have that are lucky enough to represent the North Melbourne Football Club.

I have faith that when this team does give 100% we have the ability to beat anyone. If we give 100% we will have regular top 4 finishes, we will put ourselves in the position of premiership contenders, we will win a lot more than we lose. At the moment we are so far away from being that team. We can do it sometimes and we look good. We were lucky to have put in 75% last night and it showed.

As for the coach, I believe that Brad Scott is a good player manager. He has built a solid team, he has created a culture where we can retain and attract players, he has put together a good game plan. What he struggles with is his match day coaching. Why aren't changes made when teams get on a roll? When was the last time we saw a player positional change when things aren't going our way?

I have never said it before as I have always been positive about this group, but something needs to change. This last season and a half have been all tease and not much substance. Unless something dramatic changes we are never going to make it.

unfortunately you can tell by about 20 minutes into a match which team has shown up to play, the players end up chasing with the opposition having free men everywhere on the field and running us ragged. it started round one, so you would think it would of been worked on or drilled into the team.

our tackling is nonexistent at times, and our confidence is shot.

I kind of hope next week is either a win or an embarrassing 15 goal loss. If we go down and the margin isn't that great it'll be a "well they're a great side" line trotted out AGAIN.

Treading water is the same as going backwards because the competition continuously improves.

Make no mistake. Hawthorn will put us to the sword if we churn out anything like what was given last night. They havnt got the best talent going around, but they are so well drilled that any sign of weakness and the foot goes on the opponents throat instantly.

My off field comment is regarding the amount of coaches we have and the intellect our players receive on how to improve their game. Full credit to Port on them turning it around, but in a 2 team state resources are aplenty for them.
It's on record that our players just don't get to spend enough one on one time with the coaches, and in light if this I feel the club doesn't exercise all avenues to get the best out of them.
You do make a valid point, money was never an excuse for us but this team is different to that of years gone by.

Bit of a carry on by the OP. They beat us last year up there, now they beat us again. Wot a surprise.
The 'coming back from freo' argument was silly becos Brissy actually had a rest over there.
Plus the last game J Brown factor didn't help
We have had scratchy wins over such stellar competitors as Tiggers and D's.
And from our notional best 22 we were missing Wells Hansen Grima Jmac and chuck Tarrant in for luck lately Nahas too
The new blokes choked, Aish showed LMac up and we have no answer to these skilful running types
talking about Hanley I will now support the argument that we are just so effing soft
this bloke, and here it comes, plays like Stevo or Schwatta or Archer or Rocky, and very few of our current blokes do
Personally I've been v disappointed we cant get Garner on the park, at least he looks like he wants it

If the point is that Scott does not get the best out of the squad that runs on to the park
or is unable to tactically stop another 9 goal run on
or that he selects Warren over Hine
well yeah guilty on all counts
get rid of

I don't even really care what happens next week anymore. Wouldn't care if we go down by 100 points.

We're 8-6 and still in a comfortable position. And the teams around us all have very tough games next week.

Sure, we're not top 4 quality but you make it seem as if we're battling for the spoon.

If we worked our shit out we would be

Our best footy is there.

Our bad footy is f***ing terrible and of bottom 4 level.

We just got beaten by an absolute rubbish side.

I get what you mean, but how many reality checks do we need?

We get a reality check nearly every second week, don't we?

The reality is tazaa is absolutely spot on. I never thought I'd be relying on Geoff Walsh to get our team back for us. It's been hijacked by a Boys Club comprising Brad Scott and the senior players. They can do no wrong and excuses are made for poor performance. Stern (but meaningless) words are uttered and no lessons are ever learned.

Ken Hinckley, "I am pretty demanding I want perfection".... Shame our coach doesn't think like ken. Seems his happy with ok.
