Did anyone else hear JB on triple M today say that " I have it on very good authority that Collingwood are having a real big go at getting Akermanis next year"?

Not fussed at all really. Collingwood gets plenty of attention from the media as it is (see Strauchney) so it shouldn't be too much of a worry. Obviously if the club is going after him, they aren't too worried about it considering it is the only reason he will be (most likely) at a new club next year.

Aka reckons he has the best 30 yr old body going round, and knows he can play for another 3-5 years at least, so there is value. He is a true genuine superstar of the game, and despite being the enemy of Collingwood, it is football. He may have said things in the past about us, but he has showed us, all of us Pies supporters, just how good he is, considering the best game he probably has ever played was against us in the 2003 GF.

I don't know. JB has made up complete bullcrap before just to get a bit of a talking point, which is actually quite funny. He said something about Eade coaching Hawthorn last year or something like that.
Perhaps but the other thing was he said "you heard it too BT?" to which BT replied "Yes I have that's the rumour"

I am warming to the idea. Especially since time is running out on the premiership clock. Although we have our fair share of youngsters, we need to go for the flag in the next 2-3 years before all of Burns, Lica, O'Bree (may still be ok), Buckley wind up.

He is less damaging to his own team than the likes of Gardiner or even Nick Davis. Brisbane were too afraid to tell him to cut out the media stuff when they were winning because of hi$ marketability.

We're in a but of a predicament. Do we go for the flag now with a good bunch of players or do we set it up again, as we did in last year's draft and load up on youth, therefore delaying our run for the flag. If Mick thinks we can get a flag now, we should go for Aka, Gardiner and other older players. However, if we fail to get a premiership his head will be the first to roll.

Surely if the Pies want him, they will get him by waving the chequebook in his face. And the Pies may be on the verge of a flag. He'll (Akermanis) want to go to an up and coming team to finish of his carrer.

Would take him in a heart beat... A 3 year contract would be ideal... Akermanis in our midfield just sounds so sweet...

Surely we'd be aiming to get the flag now before the likes of Buckley, Burns, Wakelin (?) etc call it quits. I know I'd love to see our veterans holding the cup above their heads in September before they leave the game.

Collingwood thinks, or seems to think that they're close to a flag. Akermanis is the jet midfielder that could bring us even closer to it, his finals experiance will be invalueable too.

Everything is logical in getting Akermanis. He'll be a regular on the Footy Show at any Melbourne club anyway.

ohhh the irony!! If he comes... not that I'll complain but going from breaking our hearts only a couple of years ago. Will he be training now that he has 'officially' parted ways with the lions?

I very much doubt that he will be at Collingwood because the Lions will want high draft picks which Collingwood has stated they wont give up so it will be very difficult to strike a deal.

Wouldn't want to make the same mistake we made with Plugger (ie letting an "old" player go and watching him carve up for a few years with another team.

Having said that, I would give up 1st or 2nd d pick for him.

I would part ways with a 2nd rounder for him. Wouldn't give up a first rounder as the draft coming up is supposed to be of high quality.

Having said that though, I say we definately go after him. Obviously he wont be playing at Brisbane and they will be happy to receive something at least half decent for him. They are going through somewhat of a rebuilding stage so a 2nd rounder would be highly inviting.

As much as you hate him for the pain he has caused the last few years, having him would be a valuable asset. There's no denying the little bastard can play!!

BRING ON AKER :thumbsu:

I'd try to trade a fringe player for him, if possible, rather than a draft pick.

I would prefer that too. Depends on if Brisbane want to push really hard for a deal or just get whatever they can for him.

He's worth it because he still plays at a great standard and still has 3+ years left in him. And really, what has he done wrong? Sure, he mouths off and probably talks too much, but he didn't sexually assault anyone or drink drive.

You won't get him for fringe players. At best you might upgrade draft picks with fringe players and pass them over to Brisbane. His price depends on how many clubs make a bit. If no one offers a first round pick, which in this reputedly good draft would be stupid IMO, then the price might be something we could work with but even then it's hard to justify. If we want him, which I doubt at his age, then a 3rd round pick upgraded to a second round pick with some combination of C1, Lockyer, O'Bree might cut it. Fanning, Morrison, Hall and Walker have zero currency. One thing that might be in our favour is his salary. Brisbane will want it covered and we should have cap room.

Don't know that we'd need to give up a player like Lockyer or O'Bree to upgrade a pick from 3rd round to 2nd round - Those guys have much higher currency than that.

They'd be close a reasonable swap for Akermanis, given that they're likely to give good service to the club.
