Acting Captain - Zak Butters

No he didn’t. He said they both act as captains but it will be a flip of the coin who gets named captain.
I took it as he hasn’t put any thought into it yet, as it was right after the game, but he won’t be running 2 captains per game on paper.

Yes, that is worded better than how I remembered the presser. I blame sunstroke :p

I rewatched the presser and clarified the comment.

Sun stroke or too many beers due to the sun?

No beers, Adelaide will have to take my money from my cold, dead hands.

I know someone who bought a couple of beers there, $29 I think it was.

Yeah the Stone and Wood’s slid down like they were nothing 2 in 15 mins and the first quarter display, grabbed a Stone and Wood, Cider and a Jamieson & Dry at Quarter time and it was $40.

It’ll be Vodka in the Sun and Scotch in the Cooler nights moving forward with a $8 bottle of Coke or Sprite in the future.

Do they actually need to announce who is captaining in Rozee's absence? I'm not sure it is that important.

I'm sure Butters will probably take on the majority of the leading with Drew's help. Do they need to call a press conference to announce what seems obvious?

The important thing is Rozee having successful surgery and recovering to get back out there as soon as possible.

Who gives a shit who tosses the coin.

Are you serious ... No Captain!

Q: "Who is our on-field, game-day leader?"
A: "You ALL are!"

Hey, let's do that for our Cricket team as well

We’re an anarcho-syndicalist club. We take it in turns to act as a sort of captain for the week. But all the decisions of that captain have to be ratified at a special meeting between quarters. By a simple majority in the case of rotations but by a two-thirds majority in the case of positional changes.

Most people with half a brain or have played team sport know that leadership and the ultimate of being a captain is important.

The team might rally and go up 10% just because they love Butters. They see what he does and he leads by example. They take on his persona. Captains give talks during the game. Give someone a word if they could do better.

I'll just say. What happens if Butters gets the captaincy and we start to play really well under him. Does he stay now? Do we make him captain? They're rhetorical questions but you catch my drift.

Not saying there won't be an acting captain or captains, of course there will be and obviously that will be the vice captains in the captains absence. But everyone on here is demanding that there be some formal announcement and that one of drew or butters must be formally declared the acting captain.

when in reality it will probably just be them sharing the load, which is what Carry has already alluded to.

Not sure you need a title or formal recognition to lead.

A cricket captain is different, they do a lot more than a footy captain, they are in charge of everything tactically whereas most of that in footy is on the coaches. But even still everyone knows that Steve Smith is the captain when Pat Cummins is out and Pat leans on him a lot, so his role doesn't really change that much.

As per my above post.

I reckon Butters is already doing a lot of this already.

I think him and Rozee have been close to co captains, but that is dirty word around here.

Butters will step up, as will Drew but not a whole lot will change besides who gives the pre game speech or tosses the coin.

This sort of reminds me of the story of Bobby Simpson's first Shield match for NSW as a 16yo. He was selected in the 12 full of Test stars and captained by Neil Harvey. As they entered the playing arena one of the players told Harvey that all 12 were on the field. Harvey hadn't thought about who would be 12th man and said to the playing group, Will one of you chaps get off and be 12th man. Simpson figured if he stayed someone else might leave and they did.
