When British actress Wendy Richard passed away last week, I was suprised to read that she was in her 30s when she portrayed Miss Brahms in Are You Being Served?, as the character was a junior, and quite a bit younger than the actual age of the actress. The same can be said of her AYBS co-star Trevor Bannister, who was also well into his 30s, but portrayed the much younger character of Mr Lucas, who like Miss Brahms was a junior.
There are many other examples of TV & Movie actors who have portrayed characters much younger than their actual age. In a more recent British sitcom, My Family, actress Daniella Denby-Ashe was in her 20s when she portrayed a 16 year old Janey Harper. Stockard Channing was a 34 year old playing a 17 year old Rizzo in Grease. Rachel McAdams was 27 when she convincing played 16 year old Regina George in Mean Girls (in fact, Rachel McAdams was 10 years older than co-star Lindsay Lohan; but only 5 years younger than Amy Pohler, who played Regina's mother). American actress Alyson Hannigan has frequently played teenagers, and even now looks very young for her age; her How I Met Your Mother co-star Cobie Smulders looks about 8 years older, but is actually 8 years younger than Hannigan.
