With Adam starring in the teams win on the weekend, and IMO dominated with 31 possessions, would you now classify him in your top 22?

Your thoughts?:thumbsu:

You will find better choices in the coming years from players you wouldn't expect.

Just 3 years ago Richmond supporters got all excited about Shane Tuck getting 30 possies every week.

Meanwhile, Nathan Foley was a nobody on the rookie list.

Understand where I am coming from?

Yep, here.

Never forget that, Tiger.

still prefer hads. but think there is room for both if bentick's disposal improves.

remember earlier in the year when hadley wasnt injured he was excellent, and even then he was still gaining match fitness .

I like Bentick, and he probably sneaks into our best 22, but hypothetically speaking would he attract much interest from other clubs?

Just rising 23, has shown he can mix it in the middle. Im thinking someone like Essendon who desperately lack inside mids might raise an eyebrow.

My preference would probably be to keep him, but wht might he be worth?

He's in our top 10 most important players. Polled 8th in last years JNM from memory. I'd expect him in our top 10 again this year.

Remember Ratts won the B&F in a team with Sticks, Bradley, Kouta, Diesel, Earl, Deano, SOS.

Doesn't mean he was the sexiest player, but was very good at what he did.

Player Games Kicks Hballs Marks Tackles Assists Goals I50's Rating
Hadley 6 41(6.8) 49(8.2) 26(4.3) 27(4.5) 0(0) 2(.3) 13(2.2) 472(78.7)
Bentick 5 35(7.0) 67(13.4) 16(3.2) 36(7.2) 6(1.2) 0(0) 6(1.2) 459(91.8)

Bentick hands down for me. Super player, just have to give him the game time, he will prove you all wrong. His 31 possesions 7 clearences came in 76% game time, thats elite performance, people in the same bracket of this performance with the same ground time this week were...Simon Black and Nathan Foley. He was in the top 5 for clearences this week, and had 10 contested possesions, only 3 behind Judd. He is alot cleaner then Hadley at ground level, and quicker with his option of handball. He has improved as a player this year and, although he has always had the capacity to get the ball in short periods of time that he is on, his efficency has gone through the roof, 31 possesions at 87% effectiveness, with 10 possesions being contested and 7 of the them clearences, shows he keeps his head under pressure.

This is something I've noticed too. He gathers and in one motion dishes off to runners often resulting in clean disposals. I reckon he goes largely un-noticed because he gathers and quickly disposes of it rather than a run and bounce type player.

He's also a gem when it comes to locking down a clearence after we lose a ruck contest - and lets face it - we don't win heaps of those ATM.

I would go Hadley over Bentick if it came down to that. Hadley has no problem playing the in and under role (other advantages for Hadley is that he can mark overheead and kick more than 30 metres).

Bentick is that type who gives us tackling pressure and hardness that we've been lacking, and personally i think his disposal is fine (after watching him pinpoint fev on the w/e, 31 disp at 87%)
Think about it, and this isn't a comparison so keep your hats on, but diesel used to be that player to pick it up and dish it out faster than you could believe to a runner-past, he wasn't very quick but he was just so good at getting it to the players who could run it out... This is kinda the role Bentick has, at the bottom of every pack getting it out clean and fast to the player passing...
He has done this very effectively this year, and although he isn't a murphy, judd or stevo, he is a different type who plays his part well and never stops giving his all...
If it came to it I'd rather Bentick in the 22, because although Hadley may be more versatile due to his height, i think Bentick is better at what he does, which is getting the in and under disposals.
But persoanlly I believe both can fit in the 22...

Great post, totally agree, especially your last line. I think it says a lot about where we are at with our aggression and attack on the ball and player that AB actually stands out so much.

Unfortunately, AB seems to be a victim of supporters who think you have to have 22 Judds or 22 Murphys or 22 Gibbs to win a premiership. Apparently if you're not an elite talent you will never play in a premiership side. Certainly no-one would describe Carlton premiership players such as Mulcair, Thornley, Hurst, Lukas, Dickson, Young, Peter Brown, Scotty Howell, Bortolotto, Ditchburn, Aitken, McKenzie, Mick Kennedy, McKenzie, Shane Robertson, Hogg, Clape, Rice, Pearce as anything but elite talents. Bentick could only dream of having the talent of this illustrious group of Carlton premiership players.

Maybe not elite but was very Special

I need to ask why people don't think the two in Bentick and Hadley can't co-exist?? Is it because they are both good tacklers and in and under players??? I mean surely they team could do with 22 people who are willing to play the hard game week in week out!!

They can both play in one team, Bentick in the middle and Hads off the back flank IMO.
