Traded Adam Cerra traded to Carlton for pick #6 and F3

If he leaves (as widely reported), what will Freo get in return?

  • Two good 1st round picks

  • Top 10 pick and change

  • A 1st & a 2nd

  • Later 1st rounder

  • Two 2nd rounders

  • Early 2nd rounder

  • Other 2nd round pick

  • Less than a 2nd rounder

If Certain players want to go to certain clubs and are out of contract, they generally go unders.

A couple of Freo Examples....

Josh Carr at the end of 2008. He went back to Port Adelaide for nothing.

Chris Tarrant at the end of 2010 he went back for a 3rd rounder.
What abouts recent examples though? Also how old were these guys in comparison?

Surely who a bloke supported as a kid has two fifths of fu** all to do with where he ends up. Would be at the bottom of the list when it comes to making this sort of decision

Except for Jack Higgins :drunk: . Higgo is a strange guy, and pursuing the dream of playing for the Saints is certainly a standout compared to most guys moving. Like you said it's usually worth nothing who you supported as a kid..

I still actually hope and think that Cerra will stay. I mean last year Adam Saad went for pick 8. Think we can both agree Cerra is worth more than that. I just think that going off recent trades that his value is definetly greater than a low first and a mid second.

the trade i would like is the 2 firsts and we give something back. This draft is seen as a very weak draft and after talking to some people on the draft board they believe Cerra would be Top 3.
I still see Saad in a slightly different light to cerra
Saad cops some flack but he’s still been all Australian and his age puts him in his prime as a known quantity of what he will bring to the table
Cerra is still young and value is based a lot around potential

Im not gonna piss in your pocket and say I don’t think Richmond shouldn’t go for him he is exactly the type of player we need imo and brings something to our midfield mix we don’t have

But I’m also a romantic and love seeing players stay loyal to the clubs that drafted them and stick it out
So if he doesn't end up at Richmond the only other acceptable outcome in my eyes is that he stays at Freo

Id be interested to know Shai Boltons worth from a Richmonds perspective because it seems we should expect massive unders.

if Cerra ends up staying would you accept Fremantles first (could be a 10-18 pick of finals were made) and second for Shai Bolton?
We'd demand Freo source another first round pick and give it to us!!! :drunk:

In all seriousness if Bolton was to leave I'd expect Freo's first, likely 10 or 11 plus your 2nd rounder 29 or 30 as a minimum.

I have a mate in recruiting at a Melbourne club who thinks it's fine. 3 standouts but very even after that, similar to the Cerra 07' draft funnily enough...

Richmond may have the picks up their sleeve to trade for Cerra or someone else from another club, but do they have the salary cap space to pay for him? A #5 draft pick coming into his prime as a 22 year old and already playing good footy for Freo, he won't sign a contract for peanuts.

The first 3 years of Tom Lynch's heavily back-ended contact are over at the end of this season. His 2022 salary will double to over a million -increasing further to it's maximum value in year 7. Dusty is already on over a million. No other club will have 2 players on 7 figure salaries in 2022. They also have yet to sign new contracts for Bolton plus a few others. Houli will be off their books, but he wouldn't have been on big money anyway. Cotchin is signed until the end of 2022 and Reiwoldt has just signed a new 1 year contract. I can't see how they could land Cerra without pushing someone else out.

Cotchin and Riewoldt will be off the books In the next 2 seasons that’s probably about 1.2m throw in Houli who is probably around 150k
Edwards and Grimes are both at the stage of their careers where what they earn is also on the decline

Bachar would be on more than 150K. But yep, there will be space. Not a heap, but enough for some guys coming in.

Reports that Astbury might hang up the boots as well

Bolton is worth more than Cerra in a trade. I don't think I'm being biased in saying that?
I think he would be worth more but like a pick upgrade of 3rd to 2nd round. Bolton has more proven match winning abilities but more inconsistent and a year older (fair to say Bolton has improved on last year I think).

I might have Freo goggles on though since one of your mates thinks it would need Cerra and our first pick to be worth Bolton

Caddy would be stupid not to look somewhere else for opportunity. He and Bachar off the books would be more than enough without even considering Cotchin, Astbury and Jack all gone within two.

Not really because those two will still need to be replaced by players

I think it's fair to say we have more going out within the next couple of years than we do coming up.
Which will be interesting to see if they are now looked at differently by OOC players over the next 12-24 months.

Still a pretty appealing destination I'd have thought. We haven't traded out any picks for 5 years so hopefully we can manage the transition a little better than hawks did, no offense.

Crucial trade period and draft coming up for us though, yes.

No offence taken but the appeal is interesting, that is a ton of talent and outside of Dusty pretty much the entire core of the premiership team gone.

CCJ, Dow, RCD etc all look to have a future at AFL level but i am not sure any scream star potential. Now i am not saying they are about to be where the Hawks are currently at, but do players start looking at the teams on the up as a better premiership chance?

Will be fascinating to watch how they go about it

I'd have their value a lot further apart than that. Bolton is a lot more damaging than Cerra. He's a clearance and goal scoring machine

Something like Bolton and Pick 26 for Cerra and Pick 12 would probably get it done.

Yeah, we arent going to agree on this one given the teams we support so we'd just go round in circles but I'd be pretty devastated if that happened.

Seems like its a matter of time before Bolton re-signs anyway, especially since you guys seem so confident Narkle is going to the Tigs

Balta, Baker, Bolton do though. Still got a few years left in grimes prestia Lambert dusty etc. If we can add a Cerra and another best 22 type we'll be up there for a while yet.

We shall see.
