Absorbed his TPP capacity…..

Basically swans took lower trade value and blues took salary cap impact.
I mean that decisions about who pays what amount of the remaining salary on his contract is a couple of separate sets of paperwork to any player exchange paperwork. They bear no legal relationship to one another, no matter how many pieces of paperwork they do to make any number of players change clubs.

Aren’t all players technically hired by the afl and not by clubs directly, to avoid a bunch of legal issues

The standard contracts have both the club and the league as their employers.

When a club trades a player and “agrees to pay some of his salary” what they’re actually doing is tearing up the playing contract and paying out the salary.

The player isn’t allowed to unduly benefit from the arrangement though, so instead of getting paid twice, the amount that the new club owes to the player is reduced by whatever amount they get paid out by the old club.

Making two separate trades for Florent and Curnow or making one trade involving both players has no relationship to that.

Well done Ollie. Already Carlton's most hated player and he's not even back in the country yet.

People are saying its a lot more than that. Unless Carlton is smoothing it out over an extra year ?
I don't know where the reports about him being on big money come from. I think it was just started by Carlton fans because they heard his move would be a salary dump, which I assume would have been mentioned in relation to the contract length, rather than the amount.

Who knows though?

Motlop has him covered by a mile.

How so? Your club signed him to a long term contract based on 5 consecutive top 10 B & F finishes. Dean Cox then decides that he's no good (where it's equally possible that Cox is a poor judge) and the club tells him to leave even though he doesn't want to. Florent hasn't done the dirty on the swans.

I meant hated by Carlton fans. Just going by the comments about him in the trade thread on your board it doesn't sound like he'll be a very popular player amongst your supporters.

He'll be fine. Most of the comments related to the belief that we were not getting full value for Charlie due to Ollie being involved. Not an issue he'll be judged as a throwaway 3rd rounder with a reasonable salary now (although his salary sounds to be less than the likes of McGovern and Williams).

People report what they want, don't they? It was $1.2m between Florent and Hayward and now its $1m just for Florent?

Either way - if Charlie leaves we are very behind paying 95% of minimum TPP with TDK, Jack leaving and Doc's retirement

I like him but its definitely hilarious some of the hate he's gotten from Blues fans

I think he'll do well at Carlton. He has the pace and foot skills you guys need.
We had a bluebagger trying to argue his foot skills are worse than Blake Acres :$

Him and Acres are both bottom 5 in the whole league by foot.

I didnt want him apart of the Curnow trade but a F3 is market value and good depth.

They could have done that in a curnow trade.
I dont think Carlton are trading curnow.
