Everyone knew that back then and probably fair enough from his side of things. Old news but a story needs to be written with his 150th tomorrow.

And kudos to him for sticking to his principles and for taking a stand against some of the crap going down at the time. Moreover congrats on his 150th and it is great seeing him back playing a role he excels at = lock down defender.

From memory I would argue he has probably won in this position many, many more times than he has lost (methinks - rarely beaten) - allows him to play to his strengths.

Yawn.

Dont blame the guy for putting that in his contract, who would want to be tied to a sinking ship?

Solid player who contributes each week. Valuable to our next flag.

dont blame him,who would have wanted to be associated with the eagles back then.they obviously had an awful culture, turned a blind eye repeatedly and didnt know how to deal with cousins, fletcher and probably many more.(having said that i dont think it would be too different at any other clubs)
Luckily they seem to have come good, have paid a high price in the win/loss column but are on the way back!!

you obviously werent around then,or havent read the article..selwood says being on the inside,he realised it was only really one or two bad apples..that there wasnt a whole bad culture(as spread by the press)...and as you suggest no other club would readily jettison their club champion and arguably the best player in the comp without much handwringing and outside pressure.it was also a whole new issue to deal with-unchartered waters in a sense..also there was a flow on effect,we not only tidied up our club, but all the other clubs were put on notice too.

so in a glass half full scenario -the eagles club should be congratulated with being responsible for tidying up the AFL,at its own expense - it took a bullet for the competition!!...i suggest a high draft pick..possibly a walk in gun midfielder..didnt we lose two because of our unfortunate dilemna..we're still waiting for the the other one!?? :thumbsu: :D

I'd hope everyone whose saying they wouldn't blame him for walking out on the club, feels no resentment towards Judd

Fortunately I have not said anything about not blaming Selwood.

Point well made - there is also a key difference between the two outcomes.

Selwood decided to stay and gave the WCE a chance to right the sinking ship. By staying his actions tell me that he was prepared to do his bit to fix things up.

To me Judd took the easy option and packed his bags. And let's not forget Judd was captain at the time.

My slant on things.

Edit - might also add Selwood thus became part of the solution.

It's amazing how these club turnarounds happen. I'm glad we are now a clean club and no longer a boys club. We got hit hard and pulled our fingers out. Clubs need reality checks.

I also go for the Melbourne Storm in the NRL we got done hard because of the filth that ****ed our club by cheating. As a fan I stuck by them when many left and only a year later we are sitting top legitimately and turned our club around.

hasnt done a whole heap since then anyway,
probably wouldnt have noticed he had gone tbh

edit: yes i probably would have, id have noticed the lack of sandbag kicks and knew something was up

Judd leaving had nothing to do with culture

Judd leaving had nothing to do with culture

Really??

Also, from memory, he was a reluctant captain.

For some reason, the Eagles still worshiped Cuz, the guy who bought the club down....... "the spiritual leader"
