Excuse my ignorance, but am I right in saying that he's mysteriously leapfrogged a few decent batsmen in the ODI pecking order?

Dave Hussey and Marcus North spring to mind. Voges just seems to stock, so vanilla, to me. They say he can bowl, but so can the other two. Seems a bit of a mystery to me.

He didn't leapfrog D. Hussey mind you. The last two OD series he played he was fairly ordinary...

David Hussey had his chances and his career is most likely over.

North is an interesting one, but Voges has a far superior ODI record. They're probably seeing if he'll be good enough to play for Australia in the next World Cup.

The issue that Voges has, is that he's more of a nudger than a hitter. M.Clarke and Hussey usually play those roles (although Huss also has the ability to tee off also).

Cameron White seems to be playing a M.Clarke like role at the moment also.

Just doesn't fit into the Australian setup at the moment I feel.

bd, dave hussey's most recent odi saw him score a ton. granted, it was against scotland, and it didn't help martin love scoring a ton vs bangladesh in his last test, BUT i'm sure he deserved a run on this tour.

Did you see Dave Hussey's form BEFORE than hundred. He had had chances after chances and has proved to be anabsolute lemon in the middle order. Ferguson has already done more than Hussey and he would have played barely 10 ODI's whereas Hussey would have played 30!

IMO Voges is a spud Hodge should be playing. He only hit a lazy 169 today. Probably still won't get a look in if he scores a triple century. It's funny how Victorian players get dropped quicky (hussey,hodge) and when it's a NSW player they get more of a go. Just something to ponder over

He's defintely one. Struugled early in his test career but kept on getting played until finally now he's one of our better batsman.thats what happens when you stick with someone unfortunately I think hodgey has pissed someone off and he'll never get a game for Australia again its a shame because he's a great batsman

I think Voges deserves his spot in the team. His ODD record is pretty good, both his average and strike rate. He does tend to play more as an accumulator of runs, but he can definitely hit a big ball. And he has shown that in his T20's.

Plus, he can bowl and is a very good fielder. So he has basically taken over Clarke's role in the field and with the ball.

North is another one who does deserve a shot in the ODI team, and he'll get a chance. But Voges has only played the 4 games, and already has a high score of 72. Let's actually give him a chance. I'd rather Voges over White any day...

I'm not sure why you named Siddle in there. Him and Hauritz were the only two bowlers who didn't go for over 6 an over. Johnson got smashed yet his figures look half decent because he took 2 wickets in the last over when they were throwing the bat at every delivery. I thought Siddle was a positive from a pretty ordinary game by the Aussies.

I agree with you on Ferguson so at least we can agree on something I'm not a hodgey lover I'm a cricket lover. Just wanna see the best players out there unfortunately they're not

Who was Hodges double ton against mate, if i remember correctly it was South Africa who were the second best side in the world at the time. Much better quality opposition than what Dizzy faced....still gotta make tho
