Anyone care to weigh in on how rule changes affect the gamestyle and strategy of teams, and potentially what we may do ?? Who takes our kick ins with the rule changes ?? Smith to just get the ball, take off from the goal square and roost it long ?? Breaking down teams zone defences ??

I reckon don't use Smith or Seed on the first kickout - use them as the receiver of the kickout. With the new "no square" rule, teams who have kicked a behind will push their zone back up to the midfield rather than the 50m line. Squirt a kickout to Smith or Seed about 35m out, in front of the zone, then they go long or hit a lead-up to break the zone. Sure, teams will catch on and man one of them up, but for a zone to work you wouldn't be able to match up on both of them.

That might be the go in the 1st few games. I can then see fast forwards closing in on the running (Smith) player. Teams may also play their own defenders at the CHF point

The 6 6 6 formation at the start of quarters and after a goal will affect how we use the guy who runs from CHB through the middle as he now has to start inside the defensive 50.

Not sure we will be seeing much of that anymore.

I reckon next year is quite tricky to predict.

At least 13-14 teams with a good chance at finals.

Richmond should be very strong. They were the best team for most of 2018, except for untimely injuries and one bad game. Then they added Tom Lynch.

Essendon will be fun to watch. Super quick across the field. The kind of team which will make us look old and slow on a springtime MCG deck.

Too much of this will be the kiss of death for a front runner team like us I fear.

They should hold a camp to work on that front running tag

Milera steps up to be a permanent best 22 player and top 10 best & fairest player ....playing thru the midfield / HB

Smith and Brad are great additions ....McAdam from a forward pocket will be a great foil for Eddie, who looks back to his 2017 shape (was a bit pudgy last year & heavier legs)

Hopefully we can see Himmelberg and Fogarty play at least 10 games ......Fogarty the more likely to play 13+

Big year for Poholke ....like the lad, but we have to see more, much more in 2019
I reckon Milera might be a sneaky chance to win our BnF if he can play out the whole season. Especially if he gets more midfield time, I can really see it becoming a possibility!

Brad, if he can just get his body fit, would be a very welcome addition. We missed his drive last year, and missed the speed/dash from around the centre. Our other mids (MCrouch, Greenwood, Sloane, Gibbs) have average leg speed, so we need more the likes of Brad to come on board!

Betts, I think he has a point to prove, and I can see him playing better next year than he has this year. He was showing signs of regaining some of the form in the latter part of this season. If his body remains sound, no reason why he can't be that 2 goal per game player he's been doing for the past few years (barring this year with the hammy).

We need to be brave at selection and not play Sauce when he is injured
We need to be smarter with the injury prevention/management. Players need to be more self-aware, and coaches need to know how to fine-tune when injuries occur during games. Sauce needs a rest during the year, with or without injuries.

Luke Brown is not a sexy player, he isn’t going to be on a highlight reel anytime soon but his ability to lock down and be a very consistent 1 on 1 defender is something we need. If he can produce his est on a week to week basic, this will help our wins and loss column.

Yep. Brown is a player who does a usually unnoticed tough job and unfortunately when he does lose the rare match up, he cops unbalanced criticism.
