They have not had a win in the courts. They (allegedly) got their costs paid, retraction and apologies by way of settlement.

They may have done some wrong but there were some pretty crazy things being said in the media - and at least with Caro she would have checked first.

So the players do look like they exaggerated.

Hawks 1st and 2nd years do Kokoda Track. I assume that is a little more challenging than listening to the Tigers song for 2 hours.

The article made a number of statements about Amon Woulfe, Derek Leddie and Collective Mind. The Age acknowledges that SafeWork SA made no findings of wrongdoing against Collective Mind. The Age acknowledges that the camp was run in good faith and with the players’ interests front of mind. If the article was read to suggest otherwise, The Age withdraws that suggestion. The Age apologises and expresses regret if the article caused hurt and offence to Mr Woulfe, Mr Leddie and Collective Mind. The Age has withdrawn these publications.

So none of the allegations of what actually happened are deemed to be untrue, but the manner of the reporting may have hurt the feelings of Collective Mind.
A less than fulsome apology, with no damages.
The term pyrrhic victory comes to mind.

I do kind of wonder if they decided that, given the amount of water gone under the bridge since then, the story has basically run its race. They've got as much mileage out of it as they can, it's not going to sell any more newspapers or attract any more clicks, so this is just an easier, cheaper option than fighting it through the legal system. Even if they won they wouldn't really have much to gain apart from preserving their own integrity. And, sadly, that's not something that most people / organisations value as much as their money these days. Especially in the AFL media landscape where integrity is at best optional, and more often an outright hindrance.
