it's be insane!! Could you imagine if we drew Urawa Reds! play it AMMI 40,000 all in red basically it's be insane!!

it's time the South Austrlian Public start embrassing Adeliade United! The First Australian club ever to make it to the Quaters! of the ACL!! Huge achievment!!!

AAMI would only work if they filled it right up. Id much prefer they crammed in 30k at Adelaide Oval rather than 40k at AAMI. If we do happen to draw Urawa, and I REALLY REALLY hope we do, it would be an awesome experience for our players not only to play infront of a rabid home crowd but also the insane Saitama Stadium. Gamba would be good to get too, im sure we wouldnt ship 4 goals at home unlike Mornington did :D

The one thing I'm worried about with the draw is getting a Middle Eastern club and the first leg is away. That game is sandwiched in between a trip to the SFS and Telstra Dome. They're gonna be mega jet lagged when they get back.

It's really in Adelaide's best interests to get the first leg IN Adelaide.

Thing is, that means one of our Brazillians misses out on the QF. Will it be Cassio, who will be slowly returning back from injury but is our only remaining left-back (although im sure Viddie is looking) or Christiano, our gun new striker (who IMO will be worth all the cash we're paying him). We look as if we'll need a couple of new strikers so youd think hes a monty to play. It wont be Diego so that leaves our Richie replacement Alemao. Now we do have a right-back in Isyan Erdogan but I think this bloke will be a better option.

Interesting times at the selection table. My opinion is that Cassio will be given an extra rest to get him right for the A League season.

Thats a fair point actually. Any away trip isnt going to be easy and especially not in the Middle East, itll be pretty warm over there one would think.

ACL Attendance

Kashima Antlers
vs Nam Dinh (Vietnam) - 7,087
vs Beijing Guoan (China) - 6,487
vs Krung Thai Bank FC (Thailand) - 5,540

2008 J. League average attendance - 19,364

Gamba Osaka
vs Chonburi FC (Thailand) - 7,000
vs Melbourne Victory FC (Australia) - 8,132
vs Chunnam Dragons (South Korea) - 7,160

2008 J. League average attendance - 15,363

I expect these figures will pick up somewhat in the quarter-finals, still, of the Japanese clubs, it must be Urawa for me. Still, I do understand the appeal of Gamba.

Thank goodness for Ognenovski and his head. The last few minutes were unbearable

Have not been that nervous since the world cup qualifier.

Draw is done on Saturday apparently.

Who is up for a road trip to Iran?!

To Tehran we go! United Vs Sepahan? Geez, can u imagine?! It would make the old Crows trips to Victoria Park look like a teddy bears' picnic ... not that I ever had the guts to go there back in the day.

Don't suppose Air Iran would do any discount flites?

The Galekovic fingertip save, him coming off his line when he shouldn't have and that Oggo header (can't say that man's name to save myself) are burned in my memory. U BEEEEAAAUUUUUUUTTYYY!!!

I heard someone say that the ACL separates East and West until the Semi Final stage. I guess we will find out soon anyway but it seems semi logical. I had another semi after we secured that historic draw. To paraphrase Frank Costanza ... we rose like a phoenix from Arizona!!!

It certainly seemed like the case last year but im not 100%. If that is the way it works the bring on the Reds of Japan and the champions of Asia.

QF's are in September, a month after A-League starts. Whoever fits Vidmar's plan best will play. Anyway, let's not get ahead of ourselves trying to select the team this far out (God forbid there should be any longer injury curse at the club). Who would have thought we would have played that last game with no imports?! The all Aussie brigade make the result all the sweeter :)

I bet even if they wrap the boys up in cotton wool they'll still get injuries.

I didnt think about the "all Aussie" squad until a bit into the game, forgetting of course that Jonas is now one of us.

When Vidmar was asked on Total Football who I would not like to be drawn against he said "Urawa". I am not sure if this was off the cuff just because it was the first name that came to his head and because they are the reigning champions or because he really thinks they will be the toughest opposition.

From a business / marketing point of view they would be praying for Urawa you would think.

Also, don't forget Urawa scraped to the title in so many ways last year. They nearly lost first place in their group to Sydney, scored some crucial goals when they needed to in the clutch games but certainly didn't dominate anyone.

Bring 'em on I say!

it could be worse

the game could be sandwiched between wellington in nz and glory in perth

at least the senario you have is manageable

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if one of the surrounding A-League games is rescheduled if it comes to the crunch.

Adelaide United is representing the A-League in Asia after all, it is to the league's benefit to assist them where they can within reason.

I'm glad we got one of the Japanese teams.

Perth is still four hours closer to the Middle East than Adelaide is.

Kashima Antlers!!! I'm sure there will be a big Japanese contingent at the game ... obviously not as many as if it was Urawa tho. How do they decide who plays home or away first?

Whoever comes out of the pot first is home in the first leg. We're going to Japan.

The best part of an Iran road trip is that no women would be allowed to attend the match by law. Therefore their would be no need for wives and girlfriends to come. The perfect excuse.

The people making those strict Islamic laws had a perfectly justifiable ulterior motive. Good for them!

Unfortunately the down side would be that I don't think there are many strip clubs in Tehran.
