Time to get the one thread going as we are scattered all over the place.

With Perrie now an official non-starter, the weather will largely dictate just who is the replacement for him and how we line up.

The forecast currently is

Next three days for Adelaide City :
Thursday : Min 9 Max 19 Fine. Mostly sunny.
Friday : Min 11 Max 19 Windy. Showers developing.
Saturday : Min 10 Max 15 Showers clearing

No prizes for guessing which night we are playing on!! :(

Originally I went for Gallagher to come into the 22, but if Burton does line up at FF, then it would have to be Begley to take his spot on the wing.

With Burton at FF my line up would be

F: Welsh, Burton, Burns
HF: John****, Carey, Ladhams
C: Begley, Ricciuto, Hart
HB: Torney, McGregor, Massie
B: Edwards, Bassett, Smart

R: Clarke,Stenglein, McLeod

I: Biglands, Bickley, Bode, Shirley

Still leaves it open to put Biglands up forward if Fletcher is grabbing too many, and if he isn't or the weather is as forecast, then our little men should have plenty of crumbs to dine on.

Our midfield is one of the very very best, as are our rucks, and this is where the game should be won or lost.

Crows by 5 to 6 goals with reasonable weather, but I'll still settle for a win by a point.

Thoughts??

Key Match-ups

Bassett v Lloyd
I'd give Hound first crack at Lloyd simply because hart is carrying an injury and has been beaten well by Lloyd in the past. Smart is the other option but to me he looked disinterested last week, jogging after Richo when he was on the lead. I wasn't impressed with his game really. Bassett is in awesome form and can go with Lloyd on the lead as we have seen him do before against Barry Hall.

Stenglein v Hird
Give Stinger the job on Hird as he can match him in the air and on the ground. Our number 1 tagger should be given the job on their best player.

Shirley v J. Johnson
I'm not sure if we need to apply two tags in this game but if Shirley does get the job on Johnson and coninues his good form it will go a long way to winning us the match.

Biglands/Clarke v Hille/Alessio
This will be crucial. IMO we will dominate these two in the rucks but Hille likes to push forward and could cause our big men some trouble. Our rucks will have to be accountable to stop Hille from kicking goals. I'm confident our boys will give our midfield first look at the ball which will go a long way to winning the game.

Carey v Wellman/Fletcher/Jacobs
Who knows who will line up on the King? I doubt Fletcher will get him as he likes to stay on the last line of defence and with Perrie out it is almost certain Carey will play at CHF. Wellman will probably get him but Sheedy has shown a lot of faith in Jacobs but I don't think he has the strength to go with Carey

McLeod v Peverill/Ramanauskas
Sheedy hinted that Rama may get McLeod but that would be a dangerous move IMO. Taking away an attacking player to attempt to nullify someone is always dangerous especially as he may not stick close enough to Mcleod. Peverill may get the job or even Bulleen but it'll be a tough ask for the young fella.

I think if we go 3-3/4-2 in these match-ups we will win the game comfortably and if we go 5-1 or above it could get very ugly for the Bombers.

I'm not sure how the weather will affect the game - but we don't need to go too tall.

I'm leaning to /Gallagher to come in - not sure how he went last week but Begley's good game v Eagles might give him a chance.

The forward structure should either mixed up repeatedly during the night, or perhaps manufacture a tall forward line with perhaps Biglands down there with McGregor (use him there sparingly though, for goodness sake) to help out Carey. Of course Bode and Burns will need to turn it on. Put John**** in the forward line too I reckon.

Let's hope you have "Beginner's Luck" Dave - for all our sakes.

Personally I'm very wary of Essendon.

When was the last time we got 4 in a row?

Gallagher got 30 touches and kicked 2 goals against West Adelaide on the weekend.

Its definetly between him and Begley IMHO. As I said in the other thread, Bombers seem to struggle against someone with a bit of pace and Gags might just beat Belgey for a spot.

macca23, if it turns out to ve a wet night I would have Shirley in from the start. he is born for that sort of weather.;)

Was he born with a raincoat on??!!!

bar collingwood, carlton, brisbane, richmond, north melbourne, hawthorn, west coast and port adelaide, there's no one id rather beat then adelaide... then again, the bombers seem to have some sort of rivalry with everyone...

Only changes to your line up that i would make macca would be Shirley to a wing to tag either Solomon or J Johnson & Biglands to open the rucking,

Would like our ruckman to drop back in defence to fill the gap & hopefully restrict Lloyd's space as well as keeping an eye on Hille who has a knack of bobbing up early & kicking goals,

Will not be a walk over this game & i still believe Sheedy to be as cagey as ever, Crows by 2-3 goals

Re: Re: Adelaide v Essendon

I liked one of the options in this mornings Advertiser:

Carey at CHF surrounder by saml crumbers and Scott Welsh one out of the goal square. Welshy is pretty quick on the lead and is a good overhead mark for his size and of course he is a dead eye dick in front of goal.

I agree with noddy that this will nOT be an easy game. Sheedy is a very smart coach and I am sure he will come up with something out of left field. I still expect us to win but not by as much as everyone seems to think. I think it will be 2-3 goals in it.;)

Unfortunately for us, I don't think we have anything remotely like easy games left this season.

Frankly, on paper this is definitely one of the easiest.

The up shot is if we win more than we lose over the next 8 rounds we will go into the finals with some confidence against basically all the potential finalists.

I would like to know how everyone rates Scott Welsh, I say this because it seems a lot of people are saying the birdman should be our full forward.

I rate Welshy highly, he was pretty good against Geelong but has been a little quiet in the last few weeks and I think he is about ready to step up and become a key forward again.

Welcome DJarman.

I rate Welshy very highly. Since his return he won us the game against Geelong and then has been almost unsighted. Whether this is a touch issue or some little injury hangover is unclear.

You can't question the couching staffs idea of using the birdman, he is burning and is just shy of taking the trademark screamers and tearing games open.

Frankly, I think Welshy is best when the centre of attention is elsewhere. I'm happy with him playing out of the forward pocket. With a return of touch he might start kicking a lazy 3 or 4 a game again whilst slipping under opposition defence radar.

Thank You for the welcome, I just hope if Bret plays up forward we get a good return from him.

I'm sure Burton, Roo, Mcleod, John****, Bode, Torney and maybe Smart will spent time up forward it's just a matter of how well the coaching staff balance it.

We don't want it looking like the game against Collingwood this year where all our stars were being wasted sitting in the forward 50 while the Pies were just getting the ball out of the centre and kicking goals.

Thank You for the welcome, I

Yes welcome, but don't expect to be referred to as Jars;)

Welsh is very important to out team. We have won the last couple of weeks withouth him contribiting that much so I am hoping he is due for a big one against Essendon.

Is tackling and forward line pressure is second to none at the Club.

Reading some of Bassets comments he half suggested (probably jokingly) that he could go forward this week. As good he's been down back lately, it's not such a bad idea. It means Burton can stay on a wing where he can play a far more complete game. (I still have strong memories of his wok cup performances)

We also seem to have an excess of defenders so it'd be easier to replace a backman at the moment. With Smart and Hart still down there to look after the likes of Lloyd, I think Bassett at FF would have very little effect on team balance.

Plus he's done it before to good effect.

He said it half jokingly but it wouldn't surprise me if it actually happened. If the forcast turns out as expected then I would me much more in favour of smaller forward line. Carey at CHF and Welsh and/or Burton out of FF.:)

That makes it three Jar full...(hic:eek:

Welcome DJarman.

I agree with you on Welshy, his return has more or less gone un noticed. We need him to step up this week.

By the way; Ive managed to gleen four seats to this weeks sellout. So here I come...

What times the Shed open? Have never been there B4?

Welcome DJarman or Fudd as you have suggested. Sadly 3 Jars would be a few too many!! ;)

Good point that you made above, which at the end of the day ended up costing us that game. Burton has been in such good form on the wing and Roo has been crashing packs in top gear, that to move them up forward probably is robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I'm sure that they will have a rotation up there when off the ball (in Roo's case), but I still would like to keep Fletcher occupied with a big body even if it's only for brief periods, which is why I would rest Biglands up at FF rather than take him off the ground.

At the end of the day the weather may play a big role and dictate that small, not big, is the way to go. If that eventuates I wouldn't mind seeing McLeod have a stint at FF with the rest of the forward line up on the 50 metre arc, because in recent games he's being tagged down to an average game.

I'd hate to be the one to have stand Macca on a one on one basis in front of goals!!
