Back from a short visit to Adelaide and here are my observations:

The Good:
  • Adelaide Oval
  • The beer - Even though most outsiders can't appreciate quality! :)
  • The city square mile, I haven't seen the city look so good in recent times. The loo (read eyesore) in Vic Square is finally gone.
  • Glenelg - Same, except the giant turd is still there.
  • John Olsen no longer premier - What goes around comes around.
  • Meeting Macca and Dee, you guys rock!
  • See above for Blues Girl, but I already knew that ;)

The Bad:
  • National Wine Centre - It's already broke! As if no one predicted that! How many people said it was a bad idea?
  • Adelaide drivers. They get worse, I think I have been in Perth too long, I let someone in from a side street and got a dirty look for my trouble. It's war out there.
  • Rundle Mall - The unhappy faces I saw there is a real worry. No danger of anyone breaking into a smile. I'm sure it's a crime if you did.
  • SAFM - Say no more.
  • The northern suburbs. Very scary.
  • Poker machines - I still can't see how staring blankly at a screen is fun and sociable.
  • The Casino - The new look is ugly :(

What The...
  • Bay Sheffield at Adelaide Oval. Huh? I thought it was the BAY Sheffield.

I was there just last night for my cousin's engagement party. What a waste of space.

ROFL! There is a monstrosity at Colley Reserve called Magic Mountain, it is a waterslide complex and it has been likened to a giant turd in its appearance. How this thing ever got built in its current form has got me stumped, it has been there since the mid 80s when Colley Reserve had sideshows etc there. Now that there are flash apartments in the area it looks even more out of place.

Found this while looking for pics of Magic Mountain, a local with a sense of humour should find this very amusing :)

Encyclopaedia of South Australian Culture

lol Found this:

Adelaide Crows. Surely no minor sporting team in Australia’s history has had to carry a state’s emotional well-being on its shoulders in the way the Adelaide Crows have had to. The first South Australian team in the AFL, the Crows were formed when times were tough. The state was crippled by the massive State Bank debt, unemployment was high and the Victorians were stealing anything that wasn’t tied down (see Grand Prix). The Advertiser newspaper, tired of trying to hype the occasional burglary into a wave of home invasions, gave the Crows front page after front page of colour photos accompanied by breathless editorial. ‘When the Crows win, the whole of South Australia rejoices. When the Crows lose, the whole of South Australia mourns,’ a journalist typed with one hand, the other firmly grasping his penis. A report that star player Tony Modra had visited a child in a coma and the child had shown signs of regaining consciousness hinted at the truth. The Crows were God. And if they weren’t playing well, it was only because they were spending too much time doing good works for charity. Unsociable habits developed by players, like pissing in front bars of hotels and wife-bashing, were kept hushed up so as not to distract from the real issue: winning. Yes, the Crows did eventually win an AFL premiership or two. But, fellas, it’s only a game [HV].

:D

My god that does look like a turd! Can't they paint the thing green and say it's a mountain or something.
I thought the local council was going to try and disguise it a bit with those giant sails, but nothing seems to have come of it.
