So how does this go, because we're not that good then the Lions and Saints beating us didn't mean much either.
Pretty soon the ladder is essentially meaningless because no one is any good so beating anyone doesn't mean anything.

But a question for Richmond and Collingwood supporters: surely Hardwick and Buckley never looked as out of their depth as Nicks has? Nicks has shown nothing.

Do you remember what Richmond were like before 2017? They even lost the last game of 2016 by 130 points. Yes, most senior coaches have been made to look very average at times. I’m not absolutely sold on Nicks, but he needs more than a compromised season where they can’t even train as a full squad to learn his craft as a senior coach.

I saw 2017 as the end of our chances rather than the start. 2012 Sando took a very fit team from Craig and gave them a bit of a harder edge. 2012 should have seen a flag. We then had the Bailey tragedy which messed up Sando. Without him Sando and the team struggled. Walsh then entered in 2015 and we were straight back into finals with a lot of players like Tex entering their prime. Club did amazing to make finals with Walshys death in the middle of the year. Pyke continues in 2016 with finals before a Gf on 2017. That was our last chance. Needed to start rebuild then. Now our senior players are getting on and our kids until this year haven’t been used. So now we start again.

Odd comment, considering Richmond had plenty of false dawns and squandered potential during their barren years. They sure as hell didn't "make anything" of the mid 90s, early 2000s, or 2013-15.

2013-2015 is 75% the same list as 2017.

Mid 90s too many clubs like Carlton, Hawthorn, Kangaroos, Essendon were cheating the cap to win premierships. Geelong the biggest sufferer of that blatant cheating.

We did have a good team in the mid 90s, but way below the great Geelong, North, Carlton teams of that time.

I agree, I reckon your mob has bigger problems than Nicks. Fact is we have no idea whether he's an AFL standard coach or not yet, because he's never been given an AFL standard list to work with.

The worry for him is that the powers that be might lose patience and sack him before he gets the chance to coach an AFL standard list.

Those wins came later in the season didn’t they? It’s either very early or very late in the season that wooden spoon teams seem to get wins. We have lost two of our games by a combined 5 points, so the chances have been there for a win.

Round 2 and then a couple at the end. Very nearly avoided the spoon as percentage was neck and neck with Brisbane on that final day and I hoping like mad that we could avoid it

Aside from Matthew Nicks, Adelaide's coaching panel has ZERO assistant coaches who have played AFL, but never for the Crows

Every assistant coach is either an ex-Adelaide player (Clarke, Hart, Reilly, Wright) or has never played at AFL level (Godden, Younie).

Five of these six assistants have NEVER coached at an AFL club other than Adelaide

Thats also true. I would also think having Key players injured at the worst possible time doesnt help either. Again..... had the tigers had a that finals run from 1994-6 and 2000-2001, that would look a tiny bit better in the record books.

The Richmond: the lost years doco shows how ruthless the tigers were. You get one bad season, you sack the coach.

But looking at the coaches from 1990 onwards. Kevin Bartlett lasted from 1988-91, Alan Jeans in 1992, John Northey in 1993-5, Robert Walls in 1996-7, Jeff Giechen from 1997-9, Danny Frawley from 2000-2004, Terry Wallace from 2005-9 and now Hardwick from 2010-now.

So you look at that list, there are some experienced coaches. I think its more to do with ad recruiting in which results in a Poor playing squad.

I mean compare that to West Coast, which made finals from each year in the 1990s from 1990-99, All they had to do was look at the WAFL to get good young talent

I remembered in the 1st half in 2005, richmond were doing well and were in the top 4. Richmond won like 7 of its 1st 9 games then comes that infamous round 10 game vs the demons. Then I remembered Nathan Brown reaking his leg. It was easily one of the most horrific injuries I saw. Tigers lost that game to go 7-3. and they ended up 10-12. they lost 4 games by 2 goals or less.

Had terry wallace got you to 2 finals in 2005, 2006 and 2008, he would of been hated a tiny bit less.
