Adelaide's decline

Was ricciuotto the one who gave Sanderson the arse?
Yeah. Roo's initial moves were actually pretty good. Walsh and Teague were both great hires. Not sure wtf happened after that but our appointments since then have been garbage. We easily have the worst coaching panel in the league right now.

The problem is that the club is insular, and completely unwelcoming of any form of criticism, especially from former Port players, even though most Crows supporters would acknowledge that Tredders is pretty fair and balanced in his assessment of football.

The review was just a PR stunt, and never intended to change how the club is run.

The review was designed to satisfy we customers with the expectation that they’d get the tick of approval. But if there were problems discovered, they kept it isolated to the footy dept, so the bone couldn’t be pointed towards them.

Bit of Wayne Carey about this post... deny, deny, deny.

I'll leave it up to anyone who wishes to take 5mins to take a look to decide who is 'spouting crap'. Plenty of support there for Ricciuto over his comments in the past couple of days.

There’s a few that do. But they support everything the club does. Most boards would have them.

I'm not sure you help your cause when your midfield coach starts labeling 0 gamers as 'elite'.....................

Nailed it, love Tredders.
Ignoring all the salary stuff which is a side issue, this is the best part. How they think getting rid of the people underneath them is all it needed is mind boggling. EVERYONE had to go after the camp.

Maybe Andrew McLeod was right saying “for me this is the exact problem with the club, the lack of genuine willingness to listen, self-reflect and improve”
And while he was ridiculed for being a bitter and temperamental soul, maybe he was just right.

But if the club thought off the back of an independent review that flicking Pyke, Burton and Camporeale would suffice, yet the three key pillars that governed the club through the same period in Chairman Rob Chapman, football director Mark Ricciuto and CEO Andrew Fagan remain - then delusion has really set in.

Its time for real change.

What’s really funny is that despite admin and board not being within the scope of the review, Chappy still told us that the review said he was an elite chairman. It simply couldn’t get any worse.

Do you mean Pyke who got us to our first GF in 19 years? Let’s keep Walsh in perspective, he was there for a pre season and 12 games.

Tredders summed it up well

Very good article.

There have been multiple clean outs (Trigg, Sando, Review) but some of the toxic pillars always remained. Roo wants to redeem his ego and the board wants to keep their high salaries at the expense of destroying a club.

What high salaries? Directors aren’t paid positions .. by all means dump on the board and the executive, but at least try and be factually correct. You just look like another peanut when making broad inflammatory statements

Sorry, I'm only just catching up on this thread. On what planet was Fogarty not being a faux-tough guy last weekend? It's not like he was taking on anyone remotely near his size...

Adelaide has ****ed up significantly not so much as in mismanagement but they are behind in professional practice. If you use Hawthorn as the bench, Adelaid is like 20 years behind

I am not going into too much detail about Matt Rendells departure. He said something about recruiting Indigenous players with one white Parent, or something along those lines.

He was given a chance to defend himself on footy classified shortly after he was kicked out at the crows. I remember seeing that too. He was basically hung out to dry. The media invited him and tried to portray him as a racist. But the words were misunderstood as a racial slur. I am glad he said his side of the story.

What he was trying to say is, Indigenous players that get the chance to adapt to city life and Play in the SANFL, WAFL or VFL for a season are more likely to succeed. Guys Like Waganeen, Mainwaring, Winmar, and the Matera Brothers easily adapted to city life before being drafted by AFL clubs and beceme Good AFL players.

Liam Jurrah on the other hand. He was talented, dont get me wrong. But he went from living in an Isolated area in his famly to Living In Melbourne. To me, he was living from one extreme to another. To him, that takes a fair bit of effort to do that.

Matt Rendell is an unsung hero in that 2007-2011 period. He was the crows main recruiter/ talent scout.

You look at the guys the crows recruited under him, especially in that 2007-09 drafts.

2007: Dangerfield, Andy Otten and Taylor walker. I will also add Jared Pretrenko. He was rookie listed but was solid in his 6-7 years at the crows.

2008: Phil Davis, Shaun McKernan, Rory Sloane. Ricky Henderson was a rookie pick

2009: Daniel Talia, Jack Gunston. Matthew Wright and matthew Jansch were both from the rookie list.

Not a bad draft haul in those 3 years. Crows made the Prelim in 2012. Yes they got done for the Kurt tippet scandal that cost them 1st and 2nd round picks in the 2012 and 2013 drafts. Did it hurt the crows? to a small extent. But it wasnt a devastaing blow when you look back at it. Those 18 and 19 year olds in 2007 draft like Dangerfield and Walker were 22-23 year olds in 2012. Crows narrowly missed out of finals in 2013-14 then had a finals run from 2015-7 including a grand final in 2017.

I always loved comparing the crows 2012 side to Carltons 2002 side. Carlton got done for breaching the salary cap in 1999-2001. They lost 3 1st rounders and 3 2nd rounders from 2002-04 when they needed it. Hence from 2005-7, they tanked for 3 years to get pick 1 for 3 years in a row to eventually make finals from 2009-2011.

The crows on the other hand, got done for salary cap breaches with kurt tippet which resulted in losing 1st and 2nd rounders in 2012 and 2013. Yey didnt finish bottom 6 in 2013 and 2014, mainly due to good recruiting god kids in that 2007-09 period in which in 2013-4 they were 22-24 year olds and in the crows best 22 or at worst rotating fringe/depth players.

Despite some of those players traded off later down the track, The crows did well despite the set back on the Kurt tippett situation.

You’re mostly right - but the Tippett sanctions are a massive part of why we’re falling in a hole now.

Add 3 first round picks and 3 second round picks into our side, and that’s potentially 4-6 quality players we’re missing.

Compound that with our hopeless admin/leadership, of which Roo is obviously a part of, and it’s no wonder we’re ****ed.

The last decade of the Crows should become a text book study in how to **** up a footy club.

Tredders summed it up well

Tredrea is great - hasn’t fallen into the trap of being a sensationalist flog like Kane - his opinions are almost well considered, reasonable, direct and accurate.

Nor did he reveal the clubs list management strategy, when they offered Eddie Betts (already in his 30’s) an extension ahead of time and Josh Jenkins a five-year deal - both on big money.
This is a prime example of what is wrong with the AFC, and has been for years - there is no clear, cohesive and strong plan/strategy; we just do whatever we feel like at the time.

Have Jenkins, Lynch, Walker in their prime? Let’s resign all of them to lucrative deals, and the draft Fogarty as well! Never mind our forward line was already stacked and arguably too tall - just look at each decision in isolation and do whatever feels right.
